Pinarello Gan 105
Pinarello Gan 105

Inspired by the Dogma F8, the Pinarello Gan 105 has a less aggressive frame, while still maintaining Pinarello’s specific style and feel with a comfortable ride.

Below, we analyze the riding experience, key features, components and specifications of the Pinarello Gan 105 and other versions.

At the end of the REVIEW, we also compare several best bike models.

Cycling Experience

The Pinarello Gan 105 is a carbon framed race bike with pro entry level components, making it an excellent and powerful race bike with a comfortable ride.

To that end I packed up my Pinarello Gan 105, booked the neighboring hotels on IHG and set off to Bandon, Oregon immediately.

The entire highway route is very spacious and kindly leaves the bike with the best view of the ocean. The road was also relatively flat with a few climbs and descents.

Road Cruising

As soon as I started riding, I was struck by how light the Pinarello Gan 105 was.

The lightweight carbonframe made my pedaling feel lighter, and the bike could roll forward quickly.

The rear fork is slightly lowered, making the bike more maneuverable, and the bike had a fast speed depending on the rhythm of my pedaling.

Then, when I was ready to increase my speed, the Shimano 105’s drivetrain provided a silky smooth and supple shifting experience, its 2×11 speeds allowing me to go faster.

The Dogma F8 design also gives the bike a strong wind break, which reduced ride resistance as I reach certain speeds. At that point all I could feel was the wind blowing past my face.

Finally, the carbon frame construction and well-tuned geometry made this Pinarello Gan 105 more comfortable.

The nature of the carbon absorbed some of the road vibration for a more stable ride, and the tuned geometry allowed me to ride for long periods of time without feeling uncomfortable.

It also gave me the confidence to ride longer distances.

Climbing and Descending

The Pinarello Gan 105’s lightweight carbon frame made my climbing rides easier on uphill trails, while the excellent geometry allowed my center of gravity to remain stable and upward riding traction to be more powerful.

Besides, on the sections where the grades got steep, the Shimano 105’s 2×11 speed ratio was rich enough to make pedaling easier for my climbing rides, thus ensuring that I didn’t exert myself too much on the climbs.

As for the Pinarello Gan 105 in downhill riding, I could feel that it was fast enough that I didn’t need any pedaling at all.

Its excellent frame design reduced some of the wind resistance, and the large 700C wheelset provided faster downhill speeds and more stable descents.

But the rim braking design, although lighter in weight, could cause a loss of braking ability on long descents with continuous braking maneuvers when the brakes were too hot.

Specification

The Pinarello Gan 105 uses a carbon frame and fork structure.

The carbon material has certain deformation properties that can absorb some of the vibrations during the ride, ensuring a more comfortable ride.

Then there are a total of 10 sizes of frames to choose from, suitable for riders with heights of 154-194cm. With a wide range of applicability, it’s suitable for almost all riders to choose from.

The design of internal alignment makes the appearance of the frame look cleaner and neater, and daily cleaning is simpler and more convenient.

Silent cable routing reduces the generation of noise in the ride, more quiet.

Finally, the Pinarello Gan 105 road bike is designed with race-specific geometry coupled with reliable components for long distance riding.

What we like about it

  • Entry level bike under a high end bike brand with good enough quality control.
  • Carbon construction absorbs vibrations for optimal comfort.
  • Gan onda fork provides precise cornering, stability and shock absorption.
  • The Shimano 105’s drivetrain offers efficient pedaling and a silky smooth shifting feel.
  • Fulcrum Racing 500 wheelset with Pirelli P7 tires ensures a smooth ride.
  • Internal cable routing design for a cleaner and neater appearance and easier daily cleaning.

What we don’t like about it

  • It uses a rim-brake design with reduced braking capacity in extreme environments.

FAQs

  • How can I tell if the bike is authentic?

Its serial number decals contain a barcode. The decals on fakes are a labeling system used by the factory to keep track of inventory. Counterfeits use molding technology that is older and more outdated than the authentic product.

  • Is this bike good for distance riding?

It has a comfortable geometry coupled with a lightweight carbon frame that still handles long rides with ease.

  • How to choose the right size?

Here we provide you with a sizing chart, but of course you don’t necessarily have to follow it. The best way to find the best fit is to test ride.

Pinarello Gan 105 vs Specialized Tarmac SL6

Specialized Tarmac SL6
Specialized Tarmac SL6

Between the Pinarello Gan 105 and Specialized Tarmac SL6, the former uses Shimano 105 2×11 components over the latter’s Shimano Tiagra 2×10 components, which have higher component ratings and higher speeds, with more shifting combinations.

But when it comes to braking components, while the former’s Shimano 105 R7000 rim brakes come with higher component ratings and a lighter weight, the latter’s Shimano Tiagra BR-4770 hydraulic disc brakes will show a still-reliable braking performance in harsher conditions.

So, between these two bikes, the Pinarello Gan 105 will ride faster with its higher level of components, but the Specialized Tarmac SL6 will brake more reliably.

Pinarello Gan 105 VS Canyon Ultimate CF SL 8 Disc

Canyon Ultimate CF SL 8 Disc
Canyon Ultimate CF SL 8 Disc

The Canyon Ultimate CF SL 8 Disc, a more high-end brand, will be more popular compared to the former.

However, in terms of drivetrain components, the latter Shimano Ultegra R8000 has a higher component rating than the former Shimano 105 R7000, which corresponds to a higher drivetrain efficiency and a smoother shifting feel.

As for the braking components, it’s also the latter’s Shimano Ultegra R8020 2s hydraulic disc brakes that have more reliable braking power than the former’s Shimano 105 R7000 rim brakes.

At the end of the day, of these two bikes, the former will be a higher-end brand, but the latter is a much better performer and value for money.

Pinarello Gan 105 vs Merida SCULTURA 6000

Merida SCULTURA 6000
Merida SCULTURA 6000

I believe that the latter has a more powerful ride, but the former has more brand value.

In terms of drivetrain components, the latter uses Shimano Ultegra R8000 2×11 drivetrain components, which are of a higher level than the former’s Shimano 105 R7000 2×11 speed drivetrain components, providing higher drivetrain efficiency and a silkier shifting feel.

When it comes to the braking components, the Pinarello Gan 105’s Shimano 105 R7000 rim brakes will be lighter in weight. But the hydraulic disc brakes of Merida’s Shimano Ultegra are more reliable.

In conclusion, the Merida SCULTURA 6000 has a more powerful ride and higher-end components, but the Pinarello Gan 105 shows stronger brand values.

Pinarello Gan 105 VS BMC Teammachine ALR TWO

BMC Teammachine ALR TWO
BMC Teammachine ALR TWO

The Pinarello Gan 105 and the BMC Teammachine ALR TWO are two bikes that each have their own strengths.

The former has a full carbon frame and fork for a lighter and more comfortable ride. The latter, with its carbon frame and aluminum fork, is a bit heavier.

When it comes to drivetrain components, both bikes use Shimano 105’s 2×11-speed components, both of which have reliable drivetrain and efficient performance.

As for the braking components, although they are both Shimano 105 components, the former are rim brakes, which are lighter in weight. The latter is a hydraulic disc brake for stronger and more reliable braking.

To summarize, between these two bikes, I would prefer the Pinarello Gan 105 which feels more comfortable to ride and lighter on the pedals.
