The Orbea RISE M10 20mph is a lightweight electric mountain bike and one of the lightest e-bikes on the market, making riding on trails easier and defying expectations for electric bike riding.

Now, let’s analyze the riding experience, key features, components, specifications, and other versions of the Orbea RISE M10 20mph.

Riding Experience

The Orbea RISE M10 20mph has a lightweight frame, excellent components, and the assistance of the motor, providing outstanding climbing and descending abilities. I couldn’t wait to ride this mountain machine and put it to the test.

So, I took the Orbea RISE M10 20mph to Hatfield-McCoy Trails (West Virginia) and booked a nearby hotel through IHG in advance. This trail is also known as “Trails Heaven” and offers beautiful mountain scenery, rugged and undulating paths through forests, sections with loose rocks and tree roots, and some challenging descents. It was the perfect trail to test this bike.

Climbing with the Orbea RISE M10 20mph was effortless for me. The excellent suspension design, combined with the powerful output of the Shimano EP801-RS motor, provided me with smooth and efficient uphill riding. I didn’t feel much resistance during the climb and could easily maintain a high level of performance.

Furthermore, the exceptional geometry of the bike distributed my weight evenly between the front and rear, even on steep sections, providing a balanced feeling. The steep seat tube angle ensured my center of gravity was in the right position, improving pedaling efficiency and uphill traction.

Lastly, the Maxxis Dissector 2.4-inch wide tires provided excellent grip. On the rocky uphill sections, the bike stayed firmly planted on the ground, preventing any rear wheel slippage and significantly enhancing riding efficiency.

The Orbea RISE M10 20mph’s descending performance is also commendable. The Fox 36 Float Factory suspension fork and Fox FLOAT X Factory rear shock offer 150mm and 140mm of travel, respectively.

With strong support and sufficient travel, they absorb the majority of the impact when landing from drops, ensuring a smooth and safe landing.

Moreover, the 29-inch wheels front and rear provide sufficient passability and stability on long-distance rocky descents. As a result, I felt more stable during downhill riding, which improved my confidence, control, and overall speed. It felt like riding a tank, descending rapidly on this trail.

On narrower trails, the Orbea RISE M10 20mph’s lightweight construction made it more agile and easy to handle compared to other electric mountain bikes in the same category.

Lastly, the Shimano M6120 four-piston brakes provide reliable stopping power. Their strong braking capability allowed the bike to come to a halt quickly, and the braking response was smooth. This was particularly helpful for frequent braking and speed control on narrow trails.

The Orbea RISE M10 20mph is available in four sizes (S-XL) with a carbon fiber frame featuring internal cable routing. It is suitable for riders with heights ranging from 4’11” to 6’6″, providing options for a wide range of riders.

The internal cable routing design gives the frame a cleaner appearance and makes everyday cleaning much easier. The silent cable guide reduces noise during rides.

The chain stay protector reduces chain slap noise during downhill riding. The down tube has mounting points for water bottle installation.

The precision carbon fiber frame houses the equally precise Shimano EP801-RS drive unit, delivering powerful and smooth power output.

The 29-inch wheels, combined with a relaxed geometry, provide a stable riding experience during descents. The impressive tire clearance ensures rapid descending capabilities.

What do we like about it?

  • The 150mm travel Fox fork provides excellent E-MTB steering precision and suspension performance.
  • The internally routed design throughout the bike offers a cleaner appearance and simplifies everyday cleaning.
  • The full carbon fiber frame is made from top-grade carbon fiber materials, making it one of the lightest bikes in its class.
  • The chain stay protector reduces noise from chain slap during rides.
  • Outstanding climbing performance, ample ground clearance, plush suspension tuning, and even weight distribution.
  • The Shimano EP801-RS motor offers exceptional engagement, power output, and nearly silent operation.

What don’t we like about it?

  • The high price may be a barrier for riders with limited budgets.

  • What is the weight of this bike?

The maximum weight is 38.5 pounds (excluding pedals), making it one of the lightest eMTBs on the market.

  • How long does it take to fully charge the bike?

It takes approximately 4 hours to fully charge.

  • How do I choose the right size?

We provide a size chart for reference. However, the best method to find the right size is to try it out for yourself.

When comparing these two bikes, they both feature reliable and trustworthy electric motors. The Orbea RISE M10 20mph utilizes the Shimano EP801-RS motor, while the other bike uses the SyncDrive Pro high-performance motor. Both motors deliver smooth and powerful power output.

In terms of suspension systems, although both bikes use the Fox 36 front fork, the front fork on the former bike is a higher-end version with Kashima coating, providing better lubrication for smoother suspension performance.

For the drivetrain, both bikes feature components from Shimano XT M8100, offering a silky-smooth shifting experience with quick responsiveness.

In conclusion, when considering these two full-suspension electric mountain bikes, I would recommend the Orbea RISE M10 20mph. It offers a lighter and more agile riding experience, along with a superior suspension system.

Orbea RISE M10 20mph vs Scott Strike eRIDE 910

Scott Strike eRIDE 910
Scott Strike eRIDE 910

Both of these bikes are excellent full-suspension electric mountain bikes, but they do have some differences.

In terms of suspension systems, the former is equipped with a Fox 36 Float Factory front fork and a Fox FLOAT X Factory rear shock, which have longer suspension travel and higher-level performance compared to the Fox 34 Float Performance front fork and Fox Float EVOL Performance rear shock on the latter. This means that the former bike offers superior suspension performance and better support when tackling more challenging terrain or landing with greater impact.

Regarding the drivetrain, the Orbea RISE M10 20mph is equipped with a Shimano XT drivetrain, which is of a higher corresponding level than the mixed components of SRAM NX Eagle and SX Eagle on the Scott Strike eRIDE 910. Consequently, the Orbea bike delivers better performance.

In summary, the Orbea RISE M10 20mph excels in various aspects compared to the Scott Strike eRIDE 910, making it a more recommendable choice.

Orbea RISE M10 20mph vs Trek Fuel EXe 9.8 XT

Trek Fuel EXe 9.8 XT
Trek Fuel EXe 9.8 XT

When comparing these two full-suspension electric mountain bikes, they have the same front and rear suspension travel.

The former bike is equipped with a Fox 36 Float Factory front fork, which offers better support and is more suitable for landing with significant impact. On the other hand, the latter bike features a RockShox Lyrik Select+ front fork, which has a more sensitive initial stage and is suitable for fast-paced riding on rough, rocky terrain.

Both bikes use the Shimano XT M8100 drivetrain, providing smooth and seamless shifting, as well as efficient power transfer.

However, in terms of the braking system, the Trek Fuel EXe 9.8 XT equipped with Shimano XT M8120 brakes has a higher level compared to the Shimano M6120 brakes on the former bike, offering stronger braking performance.

In conclusion, both of these full-suspension endurance electric bikes are excellent choices. However, in the overall performance comparison, the Orbea RISE M10 20mph stands out as the better option, and it is also lighter in weight.
