Off-Road Trail Riding

Orbea URRUN 10 20mph

In fact, on the first weekend, I received the Orbea URRUN 10 20mph, I couldn’t resist driving to a nearby lesser-known mountain peak for testing. However, to ensure a more objective evaluation, I extended the observation period. Now, after eight months have passed, I’m happy to share my genuine thoughts on it.

Riding Experience

Orbea URRUN 10 20mph

Unlike traditional off-road bikes with aggressive geometries, the Orbea URRUN 10 20mph is designed for comfortable riding.

With a Stack/Reach Ratio of up to 1.55 (size M), it feels like I’m riding a city comfort bike in the mountains. I can sense that my body is relatively upright. Although not entirely upright in the traditional sense, my legs can fully extend while pedaling without accumulating lactic acid. My waist is slightly tilted, but my upper body can maintain good visibility without feeling shoulder fatigue. This riding posture adheres to ergonomic design principles.

The comfort provided by the Orbea URRUN 10 20mph is also attributed to its direct contact with my body through the Selle Royal Vivo saddle and grips.

The Selle Royal Vivo saddle on top of the OC Mountain Control MC20 dropper seatpost is exceptionally plush. Its central groove follows ergonomic principles, cleverly dispersing pressure from soft tissue areas and providing more support to the sit bones. Even on a hot summer afternoon, it remains comfortable. It is also well-ventilated, preventing sweating and skin friction. The 780mm handlebar effectively distributes shoulder pressure, and the ergonomically shaped grips provide excellent grip, addressing palm sweat concerns.

Climbing

Orbea URRUN 10 20mph

For those who enjoy climbing, the Orbea URRUN 10 20mph equipped with the Shimano EP8-RS and Shimano XT M8100 1×12 drivetrain is undoubtedly the most outstanding assistance.

It’s hard to resist the feeling of effortlessly bounding through the mountains with the power of pedaling on flat ground. Most of the time, when I shift gears and increase my pedaling cadence, the Shimano EP8-RS seems to read my mind, swiftly and naturally opening the “accelerator” between my legs. It’s as if it’s pushing me forward and upward, feeling remarkably agile and efficient. Honestly, it’s an addictive sensation.

But when I encounter rocky or root-covered terrain, I can’t help but control the bike to roll over them. The Orbea URRUN 10 20mph is also quite responsive, repeatedly conquering these obstacles. Of course, credit also goes to the Maxxis Rekon 2.40″ tires. Though not exceptionally wide, they offer excellent traction. The tire’s tread pattern grips the ground effectively, providing traction to overcome obstacles. However, once I roll over them, the tires don’t leave any marks.

Descending

Orbea URRUN 10 20mph

The most thrilling part of trail riding is the downhill section. With proper control, the bike descends gracefully and swiftly, much like an agile sprite, and the Orbea URRUN 10 20mph is no exception. Thanks to the OC Mountain Control MC20 dropper seatpost, I can quickly change my riding position to maintain balance during descents.

Honestly, my upper body enjoys a more comfortable experience during this exhilarating activity because this is a hardtail e-bike. With the Fox 34 Float Performance front fork, the Orbea URRUN 10 20mph does an excellent job of absorbing ground vibrations from the front tire. Even without wearing cycling gloves, my hands don’t feel much impact, and neither do my shoulders.

As for my seat, it’s like receiving a quick and enjoyable buttocks massage, which is entirely tolerable. After all, isn’t riding about conquering peaks and valleys to experience the exhilaration of downhill sections?

During the ride, I can’t help but sneak glances at the LED display on the handlebars. Seeing the speedometer read higher numbers only adds to my excitement. I can’t resist pedaling a few times, craving to feel the breeze of nature at a faster pace.

Of course, my courage isn’t great enough to completely ignore the effects of gravity, so I continue to use the Magura MT5 E-STOP hydraulic disc brakes. Safety first. I keep my fingers close, attentively observing the terrain, ready for any situation. The Magura MT5 E-STOP hydraulic discs don’t disappoint, they’re very responsive. I can slow down and come to a stop quickly when needed.

Specifications

Looking at the equipment and geometry of the Orbea URRUN 10 20mph, it’s clear that it’s not designed for professional-level racers but rather for people who want to truly enjoy mountain biking and need some extra encouragement.

The hydraulic-formed aluminum frame, similar in appearance to carbon fiber frames, ensures a lightweight yet durable build. Users don’t have to worry about any unexpected mishaps in the mountains that might destroy its structure.

With a modern, relaxed geometry boasting a high Stack/Reach Ratio of up to 1.55, the Orbea URRUN 10 20mph provides users with a more comfortable and easygoing mountain biking experience.

The powerful Shimano EP8-RS motor and the Orbea Internal 540Wh battery further confirm this. Their combination significantly extends the recorded mileage and greatly shortens the perceived journey for riders.

Of course, the Shimano XT M8100 1×12 drivetrain is equally important, especially for uphill cycling. Similarly, the Magura MT5 E-STOP Hydraulic Disc brakes, which provide essential safety for riders, deserve respect.

Finally, the Fox 34 Float Performance front fork and Maxxis Rekon 29″×2.40″ tires play a crucial role in encouraging riders to move forward and enjoy off-road cycling.

FAQ

  • What is the maximum assisted speed of this bike?

While it features a powerful Shimano EP8-RS motor, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s faster than other trail bikes. All e-bikes have speed limits to ensure safety compliance, as exceeding these limits can pose safety hazards.

  • How about the battery life of this bike?

As a “URRUN” bike, it lives up to its name. In our tests, we found it can sustain 7-8 hours of riding, which is quite impressive. For riders looking to push themselves further, you may consider adding a 252Wh Range Extender battery for additional mileage.

Orbea URRUN 10 20mph vs. Lapierre Overvolt TR 5.7

Lapierre Overvolt TR 5.7
Lapierre Overvolt TR 5.7

The reason we claim that the Orbea URRUN 10 20mph is extremely cost-effective is certainly grounded in reality. Another hardtail mountain e-bike, the Lapierre Overvolt TR 5.7, is priced higher than the former, but it leaves much to be desired in terms of componentry.

When you see the Lapierre Overvolt TR 5.7 equipped with the Suntour XCR 34 fork paired with a Shimano Deore 1×10 drivetrain, you can’t help but wonder where its budget allocation went. After all, true cyclists find it hard to overlook this aspect. Fortunately, the Lapierre Overvolt TR 5.7 does well in terms of its motor and battery. With a Bosch 250W 85Nm mid-drive motor and a 750Wh battery, riders gain more electric assistance in the woods, saving their energy.

Orbea URRUN 10 20mph vs. Bulls Copperhead EVO 3 XXL 29

Bulls Copperhead EVO 3 XXL 29
Bulls Copperhead EVO 3 XXL 29

The Bulls Copperhead EVO 3 XXL 29 gives us a similar experience to the Orbea URRUN 10 20mph. Because they are similarly priced, both feature 29 x 2.40” wheel sizes and 120mm front forks. Additionally, the Bosch 250W 85Nm mid-drive motor is quite impressive in both, providing a very natural pedaling feel.

However, for users who enjoy climbing, the Orbea URRUN 10 20mph may be more attractive than the former. This is because its 1×12 Shimano XT M8100 drivetrain can offer more gear assistance for climbing. Moreover, the Fox 34 Float Performance 120mm front fork is better at dampening vibrations compared to the BULLS Lytro 34 Air LOR.

Orbea URRUN 10 20mph vs. Kona Remote

Kona Remote
Kona Remote

To be honest, for riders on a tighter budget, the Kona Remote is a good choice. In addition to the basic Shimano 250W 60Nm mid-drive motor and Shimano 504Wh battery, it also comes equipped with a 140mm Suntour Zeron35 140mm Tapered 110 Spacing front fork and a dropper seatpost. These features are sufficient for riders engaging in off-road sports.

However, in terms of geometry, the Kona Remote is somewhat aggressive. Its Stack/Reach Ratio is 1.39, which can make riders feel uncomfortable in the lower back during long rides. On the other hand, the Orbea URRUN 10 20mph offers a more comfortable and relaxed riding experience.

Orbea URRUN 10 20mph vs. Specialized Turbo Tero 5.0

Specialized Turbo Tero 5.0
Specialized Turbo Tero 5.0

While the Specialized Turbo Tero 5.0 shares many similar features with the Orbea URRUN 10 20mph, it falls slightly behind when considering the challenging terrain it can handle.

On one hand, its RockShox Recon Silver RL suspension fork only has 110mm of travel, which might be considered somewhat excessive for a hardtail mountain bike. Most riders on off-road trails look forward to navigating roots and rocks, and a bit more front travel can be advantageous. On the other hand, its 29×2.35” Ground Control tires perform slightly worse in terms of both traction and shock absorption compared to Maxxis Rekon tires.

Summary

If you’re seeking a comfortable, durable, and lightweight hardtail mountain e-bike, you might want to consider the Orbea URRUN 10 20mph. While its aluminum frame may seem ordinary, many of its components are what e-bikes in a similar price range aspire to have. These high-quality parts combine to create an electric-assist hardtail mountain bike that allows riders to enjoy longer and more comfortable rides in the mountains.
