BMC Teammachine SLR ONE Road Riding Review
On this occasion, we chose a nearby asphalt road. It’s not a major arterial road, so there weren’t many people on a weekday like this, but the weeds and fine sand on the road can still cause some hindrance to the ride. But we were still expecting a lot from this bike, and of course, the BMC Teammachine SLR ONE did not disappoint us.
First, there’s the Teammachine SLR ACE carbon frame, which makes the bike very light, weighing only 17 pounds. When I rode it on the asphalt, the lightness of the bike allowed me to maneuver sensitively without wasting too much energy, and I felt very relaxed while pedaling.
Next is its D-shaped seat post. This optimized design reduces weight while maintaining excellent aerodynamic performance. It gave me a very comfortable feeling when I was riding, and I didn’t feel tired even after riding a long distance.
And the unique design makes it look even better in general. I pay much more attention when I ride on the road, which makes my heart feel very satisfied.
What surprised me the most was the 2X11 electronic drivetrain system. I was able to adjust to the right gear precisely and quickly with just a flick of the switch. The excellent drivetrain brings the ultimate in speed enjoyment and allows me to ride freely on the road. I can say it was one of the most enjoyable rides I’ve had in a while.
BMC Teammachine SLR ONE Wilderness Riding Review
We also put the BMC Teammachine SLR ONE to the test in the field. It also performed very well.
In the wilderness most of the roads are gravel, and although the road bike does not have a shock absorber, this bike applies the latest TCC technology. On top of that, there is a fine-tuned carbon stack, the requisite vertical frame, and seat post flex. All of this improves traction and control, which reduces your muscle fatigue and makes riding in the wilderness easier.
At the same time, the Vittoria Rubino tires are used for wilderness riding. I can feel its stability when I ride on the rough trails in the wilderness.
And, with SHIMANO Ultegra hydraulic disc brakes, it has good heat dissipation, so it still has a fast response after a long period of braking. It is this excellent braking ability that gives me peace of mind for fast riding.
Main Features
Frame Group
When I first came across this bike, I was impressed by its appearance. Because of the charcoal black paint color, it looks very understated and introspective.
The frame and fork are constructed using Teammachine SLR ACE carbon with TCC Race technology and Aerocore design. ACE+ not only generates thousands of virtual frameset prototypes to meet stiffness, weight, and compliance goals but is also more aerodynamic.
At the same time, it uses the Integrated Cockpit System, on which you can see the epitome of Swiss engineering and design. It looks very minimalistic in terms of look and feels. ICS keeps the shifting and brake cables in place, and the internal alignment is designed to make it easier to maintain the bike.
Worth mentioning is its water bottle cage system. The ultra-light carbon cage is seamlessly connected to the reshaped downtube and tube seat, so you can place two water bottle cages on the downtube or seat tube for your long rides. And when you place a water bottle on it, it reduces drag and fits aerodynamically.
Geometry
To be honest, I was attracted to the geometry of this BMC Teammachine SLR ONE from the first moment I saw it.
A great bike, besides being demanding in terms of configuration, is all about its geometric design. It is designed to go for aerodynamics.
The first thing is the steep seat tube angle (71.5°). This allows me to keep my body weight in a proper position during the ride, making my pedaling more efficient and easier.
The next thing is the (73.5°) head tube angle. It gives me a quicker steering response and a very sharp feeling when I ride on flat terrain.
Finally, the proper Trail (63mm) gives me faster and more agile steering. Also on tight corners, it improves the ability to keep a straight line, while it is stable at speed.
Component Specifications
SHIMANO Ultegra Di2 Drivetrain
Shimano Di2 is now recognized as the pinnacle of quality shift performance, and this BMC Teammachine SLR ONE uses the new 11-speed Shimano ULTEGRA R8150.
Its rear derailleur is simplified with a single derailleur cage length, giving you faster and more accurate shifts. And, the new 11-speed is more versatile than other drivetrains, thanks to a single cage length option compatible with the 28-34T low sprocket.
Most importantly, its excellent battery life enables it to be recharged less frequently. Depending on each person’s different riding habits, the usage time varies from a few weeks to a few months.
Vittoria Rubino Tire
In terms of tire choice, the BMC Teammachine SLR ONE uses Vittoria Rubino tires, which are designed for intensive training and are equally suitable for motorsport.
It also uses exclusive graphene 3C composite technology for long life and punctures resistance properties. At the same time, it replaces the folding bead material, which is used to reduce weight. Thus the soft and durable shell allows it to handle different terrains.
SHIMANO Ultegra Brake
The brakes on the BMC Teammachine SLR ONE use the SHIMANO ULTEGRA SM-RT800, thanks to the ICE TECHNOLOGIES FREEZA construction, which gives it excellent braking power in all conditions.
And with better heat dissipation, the SM-RT800 rotor can withstand brake fade on long downhill stretches and provide quieter braking.
Meanwhile, SHIMANO’s CENTER LOCK mounting system features a spine mount and locking ring design for quick and easy rotor installation and removal.
Other versions of BMC Teammachine
The BMC Teammachine SLR SIX, a road bike from the same series as the BMC Teammachine SLR ONE, is a lot different from the BMC Teammachine SLR ONE.
Although the frame and fork are made of carbon, the drivetrain is normal, not electronic. The responsiveness of the shifting is weaker than that of the BMC Teammachine SLR ONE.
And it uses SHIMANO 105 series on the crank, shifter, cassette, and chain.
Of course, there are many other versions of the BMC Teammachine SLR. If you want to know more, please stay tuned with us and we will bring you the latest reviews.

BMC Teammachine SLR ONE VS Canyon Ultimate CF SLX 8 Di2
As equally high-end road bikes, both give me similar feelings in actual riding, and no one bike is far superior to the other.
Although the materials are both made of carbon, the Canyon Ultimate CF SLX 8 Di2 is lighter at 15.7 pounds. We didn’t feel much difference in the actual ride though, after all, it’s only a 1.3-pound difference.
Also in terms of tire choice, the Canyon Ultimate CF SLX 8 Di2 has an additional 650c option. And it has a 2X12 electronic drivetrain with a 4iii precision power meter.
Of course, the higher-end configuration means that this Canyon Ultimate CF SLX 8 Di2 is also more expensive. If your budget is not that high, I would recommend the BMC Teammachine SLR ONE, as it is similar in all other aspects except for these differences, and is equally good in terms of performance.

BMC Teammachine SLR ONE vs Trek Emonda SL 7 eTap
The Trek Emonda SL 7 eTap, an ultra-light carbon road bike, is also aerodynamically designed, allowing you to achieve freer speeds on different terrains.
In terms of configuration, the Trek Emonda SL 7 eTap comes with a Force AXS power meter, which gives you a clear view of the power of the ride. Also, the SRAM Force eTap 2X12 drivetrain is used. It’s safe to say that this is a pretty well-equipped road bike.
And the two bikes gave me the same comfortable feeling in our actual test. But compared to the BMC Teammachine SLR ONE, the Trek Emonda SL 7 eTap is quite a bit higher in price.
If say you want a pro-level road bike, but not that high budget, then BMC Teammachine SLR ONE will make a good choice.

BMC Teammachine SLR ONE VS Specialized Tarmac SL7 Comp – Rival eTap AXS
Needless to say, we had a hard time deciding between the two bikes when comparing them. Although the Specialized Tarmac SL7 Comp – Rival eTap AXS uses a 2X12 derailleur in the drivetrain. However, we didn’t feel much of a difference in the actual ride. So both are equally good in terms of shift responsiveness.
Moreover, in terms of wheel material use, BMC Teammachine SLR ONE uses carbon, which is stronger and lighter.
If I had to choose between the two, I would choose the BMC Teammachine SLR ONE, because I am a big fan of BMC.

BMC Teammachine SLR ONE vs Liv Langma Advanced, Pro Disc 0
Honestly, with these two bikes, there isn’t much difference in component selection. Both use the Ultegra Di2 series Groupset, and again neither comes with a power meter.
But when it comes to wheels, the BMC Teammachine SLR ONE is made of carbon, while the Liv Langma Advanced, Pro Disc 0 is made of aluminum alloy.
And in terms of price, the Liv Langma Advanced, Pro Disc 0 is a bit higher. If you are looking for something in the material of your bike, the carbon-made BMC Teammachine SLR ONE is good.
