Riding Experience

The carbon fiber frame of the YT Industries Tues CORE 4 29 not only offers a lighter weight but also impressive durability and rigidity. When I laid my eyes on this downhill beast, I couldn’t wait to experience it. The bike’s appearance is stunning, with the golden Kashima components glistening, making it look exceptionally attractive.

For this review, I took this bike to the Deer Valley Resort mountain bike park. I had pre-booked a hotel nearby through IHG. The chosen route included significant elevation changes, winding trails, and steep, rapid descent sections, making it an ideal terrain for this downhill beast.

Climbing

Certainly, I didn’t have high expectations for the climbing capabilities of the YT Industries Tues CORE 4 29. After all, it’s a downhill mountain bike with front and rear suspension travel of 200mm. I wasn’t concerned about its climbing performance; I was more interested in its ability to help me descend faster.

On moderately inclined terrain, the bike performed well in uphill riding. The SRAM X01 drivetrain offered efficient power transmission. However, when the slopes became steeper, I had to dismount and push it up or carry it on my shoulder to ascend.

Descending

Once I reached the starting point, I hopped on the bike, and pedaled, and it shot forward like an arrow. Soon, I arrived at the first significant drop-off platform. I assumed an attack position, raised the front wheel, and landed smoothly, thanks to the FOX 40 FLOAT FACTORY and FOX FLOAT X2 FACTORY front and rear suspension, which absorbed all the shocks, providing a noticeable sense of control. On the following drop-offs, the bike’s weight remained manageable, allowing me to execute some mid-air maneuvers.

When I reached the steep and intense downhill sections, the 29-inch large wheels and substantial suspension travel ensured stability and speed. I could effortlessly roll over loose rocks and boulders. The exceptional suspension tuning kept the rear wheel planted, continuously absorbing impacts, and preventing excessive bouncing. At this point, the YT rode like a fierce beast, navigating at high speeds.

Finally, the YT Industries Tues CORE 4 29 also excelled in trail riding. Coupled with the formidable braking performance of the SRAM CODE RSC hydraulic brakes and precise cornering, it allowed me to maintain high speeds while swiftly maneuvering through tight trails.

Specifications

The YT Industries Tues CORE 4 29 is available in 5 sizes (S-XXL) with an internal cable routing carbon fiber frame, suitable for riders with heights ranging from 5’0″ to 6’8″, offering a wide range of compatibility for different heights. The internally routed frame design provides a cleaner look and easier cleaning for everyday maintenance. The silent cable management design minimizes noise during rides.

Equipped with SRAM X01 downhill components and a built-in chain stabilizer, this bike offers efficient pedaling. It ensures chain retention even during intense downhill rides.

The SRAM CODE RSC hydraulic disc brakes provide powerful and efficient braking performance under all conditions, making them reliable and trustworthy.

The FOX front and rear suspension systems deliver top-level support, instilling confidence in riders to conquer the steepest and most intense downhill routes.

Lastly, the downtube and chainstay protection decals reduce potential damage from flying debris during rides and mitigate chain slap noise.

Trek Session 8 29 GX
Trek Session 8 29 GX

In downhill mountain biking, the most crucial component is suspension. The front suspension of the first bike, part of the Fox series, offers better support than the rear suspension of the second bike, which is from the RockShox series. It handles intense rides and large drops with greater ease.

Regarding drivetrain components, both bikes use SRAM components. However, the first bike has higher-grade components, resulting in lighter weight and more reliable performance. In terms of braking components, once again, the first bike boasts a higher level of components, providing more responsive braking and increased stopping power.

In conclusion, between these two full-suspension downhill mountain bikes, I would recommend the YT Industries Tues CORE 4 29. With similar pricing, it offers superior component performance.

In terms of the suspension system, both bikes use Fox suspension, but the first one features Fox’s top-tier version, which provides slightly better performance and is more reliable and trustworthy compared to the suspension on the second bike.

Regarding the drivetrain components, the first bike is equipped with SRAM X01 components, which are lighter and offer stronger rear derailleur tension compared to the SRAM GX components on the second bike.

In the braking department, the first bike features SRAM CODE RSC brakes, offering superior braking performance compared to the Shimano SLX M7120 brakes on the second bike. However, it’s worth noting that I prefer the braking feel of the second bike.

Therefore, due to its superior components, I would recommend the YT Industries Tues CORE 4 29.

They are both flagship full-suspension downhill mountain bikes from their respective brands.

However, the first one boasts higher-end components. In terms of the suspension system, the first bike’s top-tier Fox suspension provides exceptional support and performance. When dealing with significant drops and landings, it outperforms the RockShox suspension on the second bike and is more reliable.

Both bikes use SRAM components for their drivetrain and brakes. Nevertheless, the first bike’s components are of a higher grade and offer better performance.

In the end, I’m sticking with my initial choice, the YT Industries Tues CORE 4 29. Indeed, it’s the more robust option.
