What we like about it: The 2023 Trek FX+ 2 has an intuitive and natural-feeling, electric-assisted pedal assist system that makes exploring your city more exciting and cruising through the hills a breeze. Last but not least, the lighter-than-average electric weight makes it a top choice for urban commuting and running errands.
What we don’t like about it: The non-removable internal battery limits how it can be charged, and you need to have a suitable indoor venue for its charging needs.
Dear readers, please tell me the reason why you want to buy an electric bike but hesitate. I believe the reason for most of you is because of their heavier bodies, which are not convenient to be taken home, up and down the stairs, or put on the shelf. But the Trek FX+ 2, which is at least 10 pounds lighter than the average electric bike, solves this problem nicely.
As a hybrid electric bike, Trek FX+ 2 has become the preferred commuting tool for workers in cities with apartment buildings, or college students. Because it is not only lightweight but also the electric assist makes the user feel faster and more comfortable riding experience. In addition, Trek cares a lot about its functionality. Therefore, it is specially equipped with a rear rack with a large load capacity, a water bottle cage, and mud flaps to make commuting and running errands easier.
Here’s a breakdown of the ride, key features, components and specifications, and other versions of the 2023 Trek FX+ 2.

Trek FX+ 2 Commuter Riding Review
I believe most of the users who choose electric bikes are as fed up with the hot summer days and sweaty pedaling experience as I am. But since I got the Trek FX+ 2, I can feel that my commute is extra smooth, and you can feel it with me. Because I feel happy riding the Trek FX+ 2 to and from work every day.
First of all, the near upright riding position makes me feel very comfortable because I hate riding bent over. Whereas the aggressive geometry position of the racing road bike is fast, I felt like my back was going to break after a few minutes of riding. If you too like to ride upright, or if you want a wider view of the ride, the Trek FX+ 2 is not to be missed. And maybe if your parents like to ride, you might want to consider it for them.
Secondly, every time I rode it on a flat road, I felt like someone was gently pushing me forward, a very real, natural feeling. Especially in the hot summertime, I don’t experience the sticky feeling of sweat anymore. I have to say that the 250w hub motor is an excellent aid for this.
In addition, the Bontrager XR Endurance Comp grip has a very ergonomic design. It is so comfortable that it feels like it was custom-made for me. At the same time, the Shimano hydraulic disc braking is very fast and natural, giving me a sense of security by being able to stop whenever I’m on a street with a lot of traffic and facing an unexpected situation.
Most importantly, I used to struggle with mud and water getting wet or dirty on my pants when traveling after rain, but the Trek FX+ 2’s fender mounts solved this problem completely.
Trek FX+ 2 General Riding Review
In addition to commuting on weekdays, I also ride around the city for fitness or a ride during my free time on vacation.
I enjoy riding it to feel the natural scenery. Imagine riding it gently on a flowery gravel path in the countryside and feeling the breeze on your cheek, it is so relaxing and natural.
And the Bontrager H2 Comp’s tires (700x40c) have great passing power, so they can conquer the usual gravel trails.
Occasionally, I make full use of its rear rack and water bottle cage to load up my duffel bag and water bottle and set off for camping.
The same sleek Alpha Gold Aluminum frame as the FX series is paired with the FX+ alloy fork, and then a fully concealed internal alignment design, including the battery, is hidden in the downtube. And the streamlined design is more aerodynamic. Whether with Satin Trek Black or Viper Red or Satin Mulsanne Blue is very stylish.
First, the strong, lightweight Alpha Gold Aluminum frame is enhanced by Trek’s proprietary hydroforming and Seamless transitions technologies, providing a ride quality comparable to many carbon frames.
Secondly, the layout of internal cables and batteries makes the body look extra simple and clean. At the same time, it is not only safe but also very convenient for users to do daily maintenance.
Finally, the very thoughtful Trek is not only fitted with integrated front and rear lights to ensure greater visibility for the user. It also comes with a MIK-compatible rear rack, fenders, and a kickstand, giving the Trek FX+ 2 even more functionality.
To its credit, Trek claims to offer a two-year comprehensive warranty, as well as a lifetime frame warranty commitment. So, you can be bold with your bike.
Focused on user comfort, the Trek FX+ 2 has an almost perfect geometry. Its geometry is almost similar to that of our most popular road bikes but more relaxed. The ultra-high Stack/Reach Ratio (1.65, size L or XL) allows you to keep an almost straight stance and ride in a relaxed position to challenge you over long distances.
Yet, it does not lose the geometry of a typical mountain bike. The longer Wheelbase (1,109mm, size L) makes the Trek FX+ 2 quite stable, so even on gravel trails, the Trek FX+ 2 performs quite comfortably.
Slightly steeper head tube angles (71.0°, size L) with Seat tube angles (73.0°) give the Trek FX+ 2 a trail-like appearance again for climbing and cruising.
Overall, the almost perfect geometry makes the Trek FX+ 2 an all-around bike that supports both urban road trips and trips to the countryside fields.
Components and Specifications
HyDrive Hub Drive Motor, 40Nm, 250W Motor
The HyDrive hub drive motor is the reason why Trek FX+ 2 gives users a fast, comfortable, and natural riding experience.
First of all, we should get the point across that the motor exists to assist the ride, not to replace it. Therefore 40mm of torque is perfectly adequate in general. Thanks to multi-sensing technology and a unique system firmware algorithm, the HyDrive hub drive motor maintains its optimal performance, assisting speeds of up to 20 mph while providing a natural “bike-like” ride beyond imagination.
With the help of the motor, I could feel that both sprinting and climbing were extraordinarily easy. At the same time, whether it was a hot summer day or a long-distance journey, I could no longer feel the fear of being dominated by sweat.
Another reason I like the HyDrive hub drive motor is that it is quiet enough. So quiet that you can not feel its presence, and probably because of this, it is easy for people to ignore its pay.
Hyena E-Bike, 250Wh Battery
When many people first see the Trek FX+ 2, it is hard to believe that it is an electric bike. Because it supports the internal device BP-B250 battery, it is easy to be overlooked.
Hyena E-bike batteries are reliable and stable power sources, supporting a range of 35 miles on a single charge, as well as an extremely low self-discharge capability. In addition, it is equipped with a battery management system and a very high density, which improves safety and extends the battery’s lifespan. Thanks to the unique PCB integration technology, Hyena E-bike has a smaller size and ultra-lightweight mass.
The only criticism is that the BP-B250 battery does not support removal. Therefore remove the charge, you need to put the bike near the plug to charge.
To its credit, the Trek FX+ 2 supports the use of a 250Wh plug-and-play range extender battery to range, considering that some may find the 250Wh capacity too small.
Bontrager H2 Comp Tires
Our old friend Bontrager tires, and a long-time employee of Trek. One of them, the H2 Comp, is a great choice for urban and hybrid bikes thanks to its size-specific tread design and proprietary RECYCLE compound. First, the size-specific tread pattern offers greater traction in a wider size (700 x 40c), while the updated tread design provides the confidence of a smooth ground roll. Secondly, the rugged 30 TPI construction is built to last. So whether it’s city streets or gravel trails, the wide Bontrager H2 Comp is extremely passable and gives you plenty of confidence.
It is worth noting that the Bontrager H2 Comp tires have added reflective accents. So even if you ride at night, even if you forget to turn on the front and rear lights, you don’t have to worry about not being noticed.
I have to say that the Shimano Altus 9-speed drivetrain is sufficient for city roads, after all, the Trek FX+ 2 is mainly light.
In addition, the Shimano hydraulic disc is very easy to operate and brakes quickly.
They are old friends of the bike, and using them on the Trek FX+ 2 gives it an extra boost.
Other versions of Trek FX+ 2
The biggest difference between the 2023 Trek FX+ 2 Stagger, which has the same price, frame material, and all bike accessories, is clear from the photos we can see. The operation of the top tube down is very friendly for people who are short or don’t like to hang their legs from the top tube.
Instead of saying that the Trek FX+ 2 Stagger is a new bike, it should be understood as a female version of the 2023 Trek FX+ 2. Because they also share almost the same geometry but differ only in the model number. That is, the Trek FX+ 2 comes in four sizes (S, M, L, XL), while the Trek FX+ 2 Stagger only comes in three (S, M, L). You can see that the Trek FX+ 2 Stagger is more friendly to petite people.
Or perhaps, you can think that Trek wants to give one more color option. Because Trek FX+ 2 Stagger has a different Blue Sage from Trek FX+ 2, which is very beautiful.
So if you don’t love hanging your legs from the top tube, or prefer Blue Sage, then the 2023 Trek FX+ 2 Stagger is perfect for you.

2022 Bulls Copperhead EVO 3 Street 750 27.5 Diamond vs 2023 Trek FX+ 2
I have to admit, the Bulls Copperhead EVO 3 Street 750 27.5 Diamond not only has an enviable 85Nm output motor and a large capacity battery, but it also has a superb weight capacity. But that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a more comfortable ride.
Because of that, the special construction makes it necessary to give up a more comfortable geometry. If you ride it, you may have to bend over as much as possible. Because this bike is more designed for people with overweight body types.
If you are moderately built and your needs are only for commuting or fitness, then the Trek FX+ 2 may be a better fit for you. Because the 2022 Bulls Copperhead EVO 3 Street 750 27.5 Diamond are also available at a higher price.
2022 Yamaha Cross Corevs vs 2023 Trek FX+ 2
What impressed me about the 2022 Yamaha Cross Corevs was its mechanical brake discs, which felt simple and fast to me without the hydraulic discs.
When riding it on the streets of the city, I was a bit distressed by the unexpected situation that I couldn’t stop in time, and I didn’t dare to ride the Mercedes-Benz with confidence and boldness. The 2022 Yamaha Cross Corevs is a bit heavier in weight, even though it has an aluminum frame.
But if you don’t mind those, the 2022 Yamaha Cross Corevs is also good. Although I don’t think it’s as good as the 2023 Trek FX+ 2 for the money.
2022 Co-op CTY e2.2 vs 2023 Trek FX+ 2
Although the 2022 Co-op CTY e2.2 has a Shimano 250W 60Nm motor and a 504wh battery, I still have trouble accepting its 23.5kg weight. Such weight may not be too heavy for muscle men, but it is too unfriendly for women or old people, who can hardly bring it home easily. If you don’t have an elevator in your apartment and live on a high floor, I don’t recommend you use the Co-op CTY e2.2 as your commuter bike. After all, it’s really hard not to be tempted by the lighter, and equally electric-assisted Trek FX+ 2.
2022 Cannondale Treadwell Neo Remixte vs 2023 Trek FX+ 2
While the 2022 Cannondale Treadwell Neo Remixtevs, which also focuses on comfort, also has a relaxing geometry. But if you consider the bike’s range of applications, the Trek FX+ 2 may be slightly better.
First, the Trek FX+ 2’s bold geometry allows it to brave gravel trails. Secondly, the MIK-compatible rear rack, fenders, and kickstand give it even more versatility. So if you’re looking for a bike for commuting or running errands, the 2023 Trek FX+ 2 might be more your speed.
