What we don’t like about it: The high tensile steel can effectively absorb bumps, but it also invariably increases the weight of the bike.

The sturdy aluminum frame is equipped with a Shimano Tourney 3×7-speed drivetrain, giving you a super-fast ride.
Of course, you’ll be riding in a comfortable enough, near-erect riding position to make the 700c’s tires roll fast.

Giant Escape Disc 3 Urban Commuting
I believe most of the users who bought Giant Escape Disc 3, like me, use it for enjoyment. It is intended to be easier and faster to get out of work every day.
To clarify, I live about 5 miles away from the office. If you ride fast, you can get there in almost 28 minutes.
However, the company is on high ground, so there are quite a few sections of the road to the office that require climbing. But all the same, the process of getting off work was exciting and I could enjoy the fun of the acceleration of gravity.
I have to say that the Giant Escape Disc 3 has a more comfortable geometry. I can ride it in a more upright position, and I can also see farther for easier observation of the road.
Secondly, the most comforting thing for me is the Shimano Tourney powerplant, which gives me more options to deal with uphill or downhill.
At the same time, it shifts very quickly. The only regret is that its front derailleur chainstay is a bit rattling, but I don’t mind the accompaniment.
In addition, the Tektro mechanical braking is very fast and pronounced. I enjoy the downhill moments when I can sprint with a little force in my hands. And when I need to slow down, I just need to increase the grip and it stops my bike easily.
To its credit, the 700 x 38c tires are perfect for road riding. I felt very relaxed during pedaling and it spun very fast. It is also soft and flexible making my butt feel comfortable.
Last but not least, Giant has equipped the bike with a water bottle holder and rack mounting holes. I also made good use of them to lighten the load on my shoulders.
Giant Escape Disc 3 General Riding
It’s clear from the fact that Giant gave the Escape Disc 3 sufficiently wide tires (700x38c) that the designers didn’t limit it to smooth city roads. Slightly off-road, and not too rough gravel trails, it can also handle.
On weekends off, I also like to ride, and fitness in the park near home.
Its seatpost (Giant D-Fuse) with the saddle (Giant Sport) is very comfortable. Occasionally it encountered uneven ground or gravelly dirt trails, and it absorbed the bumps very competently, so the butt didn’t feel too much vibration.
In addition, its Pedals (Giant Urban Fitness) are also quite non-slip. Once when I encountered a puddle and accidentally stepped on my shoes, I didn’t feel unstable when I put my feet on the pedals.
However, the bike did get a little bumpy when I hit rough roads. But it wasn’t terrible, because when I lowered the psi of the tires a little, more comfort came with it. And it didn’t affect the bike’s operation.
I have to say that the aesthetics of Giant Escape Disc 3 are as online as ever.
On the one hand, the sturdy and lightweight ALUXX-Grade Aluminum frame with a high-tensile steel fork have a compact shape and clear lines. Also, the Metallic Black and Metallic Blue paints are very beautiful and stylish. On the other hand, the hidden internal alignment makes the body look very simple and generous.
In addition, Giant has also put a lot of effort into user comfort. Mainly on the Seatpost, this bike is specially designed with Giant’s proud D-Fuse, which has a strong shock-absorbing effect. Especially when paired with the soft Giant Sport Saddle, the rider’s hips will feel unbelievably snug.
It is worth mentioning that Escape Disc 3 has reserved mudguards, water bottle holders, and rack mounting holes, which users can choose to utilize according to their needs.
When it comes to the geometry of the Giant Escape Disc 3, I think most people rate it as comfortable. After all, a nearly upright position is more relaxed on city streets and allows for more range of vision.
Secondly, the Giant Escape Disc 3 is also very agile, as evidenced by the Trail (69mm, LG) as well as the Wheelbase (1,091mm, LG). In addition, the faster, more agile steering allows you to navigate the crowded city streets at will.
Meanwhile, the shorter rake (50mm) added drag. Although this reduces the handling speed, it improves the stability of the bike.
In addition, the steeper Seat Tube Angle (73°) moves the saddle forward, and the Head Tube Angle (71°) brings the front tire further away from the rider. This combination allows the rider to go faster on the road without lacking agility.
Components and Specifications
Shimano Tourney 3×7 Speed Drivetrain
A bike is judged not only by its frame, geometry, and its groupset but also by its speed performance.
Although the Giant Escape Disc 3 is not particularly fast, it is reasonably fast for the price point.
First of all, the Shimano Tourney 3×7 speed drivetrain Front Derailleur and Rear Derailleur are only entry level though. However, it is not only easy to operate but also very smooth when shifting gears.
Secondly, the Shifters (Shimano ST-EF41) combine Reach Adjust (an ergonomic 2-finger brake lever component) with a durable, aesthetically pleasing OPTICAL GEAR DISPLAY, so shifting is quick and intuitive for the rider.
Tektro Mechanical Disc Brake System
While there will always be those who dislike mechanical disc brakes that require more force from the rider, the braking power of Tektro mechanical disc brakes is not to be underestimated.
It provides powerful braking performance whenever you need it, whether in dry or wet conditions.
Secondly, it is very durable and easy to maintain. You don’t have to worry that your roughness will make it break.
Even if it is unfortunately injured, you can quickly find its parts at a street repair store. All in all, it’s right for the Giant Escape Disc 3 at this price point.
Giant S-X3 Tires
Although Giant’s S-X3 puncture-proof tires are not too advanced, they still do not prevent it from having an excellent grip and great rolling speed.
Plus they are strong enough to support you on the road to withstand heavy blows time and time again. Because of the anti-puncture protection feature, the chances of a flat tire are greatly reduced.
You have to admit that the 700 x 38c tire is perfect for road riding. This is because this size tire is thin enough to allow it to have the ability to turn quickly on smooth roads and keep the rider up to speed.
It is also thick enough to create a softer riding experience. Even if you occasionally encounter an uneven surface, the bike can pass through without any pressure.
Commendably, technically speaking, Giant double-wall aluminum Rims can support up to 45mm tires. If you want the bike to go to the complicated gravel road, you can replace the tires with thicker ones for higher passability and comfort.
Other versions of Giant Escape
If you’re still not too happy with the Giant Escape Disc 3 price and are eager to lower your budget, I recommend you consider the 2022 Giant Escape 3.
It has the same frame and geometry as the Escape Disc 3, but of course, the biggest difference between the two is basically about the Brakes.
The 2022 Giant Escape 3 uses Tektro mechanical’s V-Brakes, which are also effective, but slightly less so than disc brakes. I have to tell you responsibly that you may need to exert more effort to brake in wet weather. In addition, it may also produce a harsh sound when braking in an emergency.
So, if you don’t mind all that, the 2022 Giant Escape 3 is a really good deal.
But if you have enough money, Giant Escape Disc 3 can give you a better riding experience.
Giant has introduced other bikes in the 2022 Giant Escape series. They are also very inexpensive, and again, very good value for money. They can be used for both commuting and fitness.

2022 BMC Alpenchallenge THREE vs 2022 Giant Escape Disc 3
Perhaps the biggest impression of the 2022 BMC Alpenchallenge THREE is that it is fast. But it also has its shortcomings, that is, its tires limit its performance on uneven surfaces.
Although there is not much difference between 35c and 38c, the real ride gives the rider a completely different comfortable feeling. When you ride the 2022 BMC Alpenchallenge THREE once you hit an obstacle, your hips and arms will probably suffer a shock.
The BMC Alpenchallenge THREE is really good if you’re just looking for a bike for commuting and flat roads. But if you’re looking for something else to do, the Giant Escape Disc 3 might be more your speed.

2023 Fairdale Lookfar vs 2022 Giant Escape Disc 3
If you think Giant Escape Disc 3 is heavy, then the 2023 Fairdale Lookfar may be even more disappointing to you.
The Steel frame and forks make it look rather bulky. Although Fairdale Lookfar has tried to remedy the situation on the groupset, it is not very useful.
It has to be admitted that Steel is very strong and durable, but the material makes it only an emergency shelter when encountering wet locations. Therefore, this greatly limits the travel of Fairdale Lookfar.
Therefore, the decision of whether you need to choose the rust-prone oxidized frame 2023 Fairdale Lookfar is up to you.
2023 Trek Dual Sport 2 Gen 5 vs 2022 Giant Escape Disc 3
The 2023 Trek Dual Sport 2 Gen 5 has a respectable speed and comfortable geometry though. But with 650b x 50c tires on the road, you’ll find it hard to pedal, and your calves will tend to get sore on long rides. Of course, these tires also support it on gravel trails, where it outperforms the Giant Escape Disc 3.
If you don’t mind its wide tires, and its less flexible steering (trail 80mm), then the 2023 Trek Dual Sport 2 Gen 5 is really good.
But if you’re more focused on speed and nimble steering (trail 69mm), then the Giant Escape Disc 3 with 700x38c tires might be a no-brainer.

2022 Kona Dew Deluxe vs 2022 Giant Escape Disc 3
Although the 2022 Kona Dew Deluxe uses a more expensive groupset (Shimano Deore), it doesn’t come in exchange for faster speeds. This is because the 1×11 speed has fewer gear ratios compared to the 3×7 speed drivetrain. This may not be too friendly for them to go up or down hills.
The main reason I’m so picky about it is because of its $949 price tag. This makes me think that it is not a good value for money. Because I could have used the $300 difference to upgrade the 2022 Giant Escape Disc 3 for a more comfortable ride.
So for me, I probably wouldn’t want to spend the extra few hundred dollars. After all, in actual riding, the Giant Escape Disc 3 performs well both up and down hills.
