Unlike brands like Trek, Canyon, and Specialized, Otso is a relatively new brand. However, their team is dedicated to developing innovative and high-performance bicycles. The Otso Waheela C GRX 600 is a satisfying carbon gravel bike equipped with mid-range components and hydraulic disc brakes. Although it’s a gravel bike, it can also handle the diverse preferences of riders.

Riding Experience

After two weeks of riding, I have gained a fresh perspective on the Otso Waheela C GRX 600. By the way, IHG was quite convenient; during the review period, I could book good accommodations through it.

Mounting the bike frame and saddle, it’s evident that getting over the frame to the saddle isn’t particularly easy, so I made some adjustments by lowering the seatpost height. During the ride, its steering isn’t exceptionally responsive, but it’s not sluggish either. I believe this is because its head tube angle is 71.5°, which, in terms of road bike geometry, isn’t particularly aggressive. I have a good impression of the setup of this bike; it strikes a balance between stability and responsiveness.

Speaking of lightweight, I can’t help but think about the feeling of the wind rushing past my ears during this time. It feels particularly lightweight because its frame weighs only 2.2 lbs. And thanks to the Tuning Chip system, you can easily adjust the Otso to meet a wider range of riding needs.

However, it must be said that this bike isn’t a professional road bike and may lack a bit in terms of speed. Still, within its category, its performance is quite satisfactory.

Is that all?

Based on the demands of many riders, I specifically tested this bike on wet and slippery roads. It didn’t disappoint me. With its relatively wider Panaracer Gravel King SK 700×38 tires, it can firmly grip the road, without worrying about slipping. I also tested the brakes, and I must say that the Shimano GRX 400 hydraulic brakes are powerful. In such conditions, they provide strong braking performance.

Of course, we also need to consider “smooth shifting” during the ride, which is a crucial factor for all riders. While riding, I tested the 2×11 Shimano GRX 810 gear system through various shifting operations. Well, after all, it’s a Shimano product, so its reliability is unquestionable. Shifting gears is precise and smooth, and it offers a wide range of gear ratios. However, I didn’t like that occasionally it made a clashing sound during gear shifts.

In summary, on flat and gravel roads, I find the performance of the Otso Waheela C GRX 600 to be quite satisfying.


The Otso Waheela C GRX 600 is a full carbon fiber gravel bike, featuring Otso’s patented Tuning Chip technology. This technology allows for different riding experiences by adjusting the wheelbase and BB Height. It also comes with ample mounting holes, accommodating not only sufficient water but also allowing for the attachment of accessories like luggage racks using the fork’s mounting holes.

Additionally, the handlebar features a Lithic Corundum aluminum compact drop with a 16° flare. This promotes a more natural grip position, enhancing riding comfort and control. However, it may not be ideal for users who prefer narrower handlebars.

We’ve also taken note of its WTB Volt 142mm, custom for Otso saddle. During rides, its contour provides a comfortable position for my sit bones, especially during extended rides.

Furthermore, the internal cable routing design gives it an overall clean appearance. However, some cables are exposed, so maintenance should be considered.

Other Versions

After extensive riding across various terrains and time, we have gained an intuitive understanding of the powertrain system, wheelset, and more on the Otso Waheela C GRX 600. It’s indeed an excellent value hardtail mountain bike.

However, it is not the only choice, so we conducted further research.

2023 Otso Waheela C GRX 800

The price of the 2023 Waheela C GRX 800 is $1120 higher than the Waheela C GRX 600, but they share the same frame and even the same gearing. However, the Otso Waheela C GRX 800 features Shimano GRX 810 Hydraulic brakes. These are high-end brakes known for their durability and performance. Although the Waheela C GRX 600 uses the entry-level Shimano GRX 400 Hydraulic brakes, in my opinion, there isn’t a significant difference between the two, yet the price difference is $1120, which I find hard to justify.

Of course, if you’re looking for more powerful and higher-performing brakes, you may consider trying out the 2023 Otso Waheela C GRX 800 at a local store.

If you’re seeking better value for your money, I believe the Otso Waheela C GRX 600 is worth considering.

The Cannondale Topstone Carbon 5 features a carbon fiber frame and comes with a 2×11 drivetrain. However, the Topstone Carbon 5 uses the Shimano GRX 812, Shadow RD+ drivetrain. This transmission system incorporates a special design to maintain chain stability. This means that even in bumpy conditions, the chain won’t sway back and forth, reducing the risk of chain drops.

Of course, it’s not to say that the Otso Waheela C GRX 600 has a subpar gearbox; it uses the reliable Shimano GRX 810, similar to the 820. However, if you have strict demands for gear stability, the Cannondale Topstone Carbon 5 is worth considering.

To be honest, the Otso Waheela C GRX 600 is priced slightly higher, but it doesn’t outshine the Cannondale Topstone Carbon 5 in terms of the gearbox. Moreover, these two bikes are quite similar when it comes to tires. So, the choice ultimately depends on your personal needs.

Jamis RENEGADE C1 vs. Otso Waheela C GRX 600


The Jamis RENEGADE C1 is also a lightweight carbon fiber gravel bike, priced only about $50 more than the Otso Waheela C GRX 600, and the rear derailleur is quite similar. Additionally, the difference in tire width between these two bikes is almost negligible. However, Jamis uses the higher-level Shimano GRX BR-RX810 Hydraulic Disc Brakes for braking, which includes fins and larger brake discs, providing superior braking performance. But if you’re using it for everyday riding, the Otso Waheela C GRX 600 can handle it just fine.

Furthermore, the Jamis RENEGADE C1 comes with a Ritchey Ergomax Comp handlebar featuring a 128 ergonomic drop with a 12° flare, offering better control. However, the handlebar on the Otso Waheela C GRX 600 has a larger flare, providing a wider grip area.

With a minimal price difference, the choice should be based on your specific needs and preferences.

Looking at the overall picture, the Giant Revolt, Advanced 1 has cleaner lines. However, when it comes to mounting holes, it’s evident that the Otso Waheela C GRX 600 offers more options.

In terms of gearing, we can see that the Giant Revolt, Advanced 1 is equipped with a 1×11 setup. While a 1× system offers simplicity and ease of use, for riders who prefer more gear options, the Waheela C GRX 600 is a better choice.

However, one intriguing feature of the Giant Revolt Advanced 1 is its dropper post – the Giant Contact Switch. This means riders can quickly adjust saddle height in various riding scenarios by manipulating a lever.

But it’s worth noting that the Giant Revolt, Advanced 1 comes with Maxxis Rambler tires with a width of 45c, wider than the tires on the Otso Waheela C GRX 600. So in terms of speed, the Waheela C GRX 600 would be faster.

If you’re looking for more speed, the Otso Waheela C GRX 600 is worth considering. However, if you, like me, appreciate a dropper post, I think you might want to try to ride the Giant Revolt, Advanced 1 at a local bike shop.

The Canyon Grail CF SL 8 is priced around $1,000 cheaper than the Otso Waheela C GRX 600, and I honestly can’t say it’s inferior to the Waheela C GRX 600. Whether it’s in terms of component configuration or overall design, I think they both perform well. However, it’s clear to me that the Canyon Grail CF SL 8 offers better value for the money.

But the Canyon Grail CF SL 8 has slightly wider tires. Initially, I had doubts about its speed compared to the Otso Waheela C GRX 600, but in actual testing, it turned out to be slightly faster. In my opinion, it might not be suitable for users with back issues, as its geometry is somewhat more aggressive.

While the Waheela C GRX 600 is more expensive, it doesn’t outperform the Canyon in terms of performance. However, its geometry makes it easier for riders to maintain an upright riding position.

In conclusion, if you prefer higher speed and a more affordable price, I think the Canyon Grail CF SL 8 is a good choice. But if you prefer a more upright riding position, I recommend trying out the Otso Waheela C GRX 600.
