Rating (4.75/5)
If you’re in the market for an affordable electric-assist hybrid bicycle to tackle your daily commute or leisurely rides, you might want to consider the Decathlon B’Twin Riverside Original 920 E.
Known for its high-value offerings, Decathlon has specially designed the B’Twin Riverside Original 920 E with a low-geometry aluminum frame and full suspension, providing riders with ample comfort.
The 7-speed drivetrain with a mix of Shimano and SRAM components, coupled with a brushless 250-watt motor in the rear wheel hub, makes pedaling a breeze and travel faster and more effortless.
Of course, the handlebars, saddle, LCD control screen, and many other details reflect the French manufacturer’s meticulousness and attention to detail. Undoubtedly, whether in terms of size or comfort, the bike is equally attractive to male and female riders.
Below, we’ll analyze the riding experience, specifications, features, and other versions of the Decathlon B’Twin Riverside Original 920 E. If you’re interested in learning more about bike reviews, you can follow us.
Commuter Riding
After 400km of safe and trouble-free driving, I finally chose to talk about my feelings about the ride.
My review trip was based on my city commute, with the road to the office being about 10.8km. Although in the city, there is still a section of worn-out road in disrepair, as well as a section of the slope.
Comfortable Sitting Position
The first impression I had of this bike, which is designed for comfortable and easy riding, was its very relaxed geometry. The almost upright riding position is very suitable for city commuters, like me, who spend most of their days sitting in an office. It allows me to have a good view of the road, enabling me to make quick adjustments and maneuvers.
Of course, for those with long legs, having a high seat that allows for a more extended range of motion may be more important. This is where the aluminum seat post with marked increments comes in handy. In addition, the comfort of the B’Twin Ergofit gel saddle is also essential. It has a soft touch, and the hollow design in the seating area provides better ventilation. Even on hot summer days, I feel comfortable and cool while riding.
Effortless Pedaling
I chose this electric bike as my commuting tool because I was tired of regular bikes making my legs feel sore and sweaty while climbing uphill in the hot summer weather.
Although the brushless 250-watt motor with 30Nm torque seems simple, it provides reliable assistance. When I encounter an uphill road, I naturally switch the assistance mode to mode 3. I adjust the gears and pedal normally, and the bike easily and smoothly climbs to the top. This eliminates the need to exhaust me by standing and pedaling with all my strength and prevents me from arriving at the office covered in sweat and with a bad odor.
Of course, when I’m not in a rush to get to work, I use a lower assistance mode, pedal slowly, and enjoy the feeling of the warm breeze on my face as I ride.
Reliable Detailing
Every enjoyable commuting trip depends on carefully designed details.
I like the backlit control screen that displays the speed, distance, remaining power, and mode. The large font makes it easy to read without having to bend over. Unfortunately, the backlit design is not suitable for dark environments at night.
Luckily, the B’Twin Riverside Original 920 E is equipped with front and rear lights. Although they are not very bright, they are essential for riding in the dark. In addition, the bell and wheel reflectors increase the rider’s safety.
For most people, the adjustable stem and the B’Twin ergonomic grips that conform to ergonomic principles are also very attractive. They provide a more customized and comfortable riding experience.
The most impressive feature, of course, is its SUNTOUR spring front suspension fork (1″ 1/8 pivot in steel) and rear spring suspension with 63mm travel. Although I can feel the bike’s ups and downs on uneven roads, it does not make my buttocks or palms feel uncomfortable.
Everyday Travel
The electric-assist design makes the Riverside Original 920 E more versatile. So, besides commuting, I’m happy to use it for errands, shopping, or leisurely rides.
Thanks to its lithium-ion 36v 11.6 Ah (418Wh) battery, which has a strong battery life, I often ride it to my parents’ house on the outskirts of a small town 19.8 km away. Even in the highest mode, the bike can easily handle a complete round trip and still have plenty of battery life left.
Although some people complain that the battery placed on the rear frame limits the bike’s carrying capacity, I find that using the rear luggage rack provided by Decathlon makes it easy to load fruits or other items without affecting the ride. By the way, if you want to go riding in well-known terrain or special terrain, you can book your accommodation on IHG Hotels & Resorts. It is not only rich in variety but also easy to operate.
Thanks to the M size 26″ x 1.75 B’Twin Trekking hybrid road and trail tires, when the wheels can also enter the dirt road with a bit of off-road smoothly. It is more passable, even when encountering gravel or dirt puddles, as long as I hold the handlebars steady and shift and pedal, the road can’t pose a problem.
Specification
When it comes to the accessories of the Decathlon B’Twin Riverside Original 920 E, my feeling is that it offers great value for money and has an advantage over other electric bikes in the same price range.
The reliable mixed aluminum frame keeps the bike lightweight while also sturdy and durable. The Shimano TZ 500 7-speed freewheel and SRAM Trigger x – 3 shifter, along with two V-Brake pads, make the Riverside Original 920 E practical in both transmission and braking.
For electric bikes, the battery and motor are always worth discussing. The bike’s 30Nm torque rear wheel hub brushless 250-watt motor has four auxiliary modes, including walking mode (0, 1, 2, or 3). As the number increases, the horsepower of the assistance also increases. The maximum 25km/h assisted power is safe and fast for riders who are not good at exercise.
Although the 418Wh lithium-ion battery may not seem powerful, it can support users with a recharge mileage of at least 50km. If you switch to mode 1, the maximum travel distance will be doubled (about 90km), which is enough to meet the short-term travel needs of the general user for a week.
Other versions of Decathlon B’Twin Riverside Original
Riverside Original 900 E, a similar product to the 920E, has a higher profile. However, more users are willing to choose the more expensive 920 E.
Although the 900 E and 920 E have the same set of motor and battery equipment, we found that the 920 E has a longer battery life. This is because the 900 model tended to give people a lot of energy with each turn of the pedal, leading to jerkiness and “wasted” energy.
The energy-saving 920 E pays more attention to the creation of a natural pedaling feeling. They cleverly control the amount of electric assistance, making riding comfortable, saving motor power, and extending battery life.

Decathlon B’Twin Riverside Original 920 E VS. Decathlon Basis Hybrid 700c Folding Electric Bike
Decathlon’s other electric bike – the Decathlon Basis Hybrid 700c Folding Electric Bike – is also popular among urban commuters.
Compared to the B’Twin Riverside Original 920 E, the full-size Basis Hybrid Electric Bike’s folding feature makes it more convenient for commuting and navigating stairs, as well as easier to store. It also features 3 assistance modes and a 7-speed Shimano gear system to help people complete their journeys.
However, its steel frame and battery detract from its appeal. Steel frames are not as well-suited to wet environments and require more careful maintenance from users. Additionally, the 9.6Ah battery life is not as powerful as the B’Twin Riverside Original 920 E, supporting a maximum of 45 kilometers and requiring users to constantly monitor the battery level and plan their journey accordingly. Nonetheless, this is sufficient for most short trips.
Both models are currently on discount, and the price difference is not significant, making both good choices. But considering the discounted prices, the B’Twin Riverside Original 920 E is the better value, as it is 100 pounds cheaper.
Decathlon B’Twin Riverside Original 920 E VS. Hurley Hybrid-Bicycles Amped Single Speed E-Bike
For those on a limited budget, the Hurley Hybrid-Bicycles Amped Single Speed E-Bike for under $600 does have some appeal.
The design of storing the battery in the downtube not only lowers the center of gravity but also leaves the rear rack position open. And the top speed of 20mph makes cycling faster and easier.
However, after considering its unremarkable battery and single-speed drivetrain, you might want to reconsider. Unlike the Decathlon B’Twin Riverside Original 920 E, which has an extra-long battery life, the Hurley Hybrid-Bicycles battery pack can only provide a recharge mileage of up to 20 miles. In addition, its single-speed drivetrain lacks some technicality when it comes to climbing hills. Users must rely on both electric assistance and their legs to climb slopes.
While the weight of the Hurley Hybrid-Bicycles E-Bike is lightweight, using a steel frame material makes it 0.5kg heavier than the aluminum frame of the B’Twin Riverside Original 920 E.
So, if you are on a budget, the B’Twin Riverside Original 920 E is more than worthy of a commuter. But if you are on a budget, Hurley Hybrid-Bicycles is also very good.
Decathlon B’Twin Riverside Original 920 E VS. Sixthreezero EVRYjourney Women’s Electric Bicycle
Although the Sixthreezero EVRYjourney Women’s Electric Bicycle is not as well-known as Decathlon, it does have its unique charm.
On one hand, the 500W rear hub motor supports both pedal assist and full electric modes, allowing riders to enjoy an easy and pleasant ride. Coupled with a top speed of 28mph, the Sixthreezero EVRYjourney is indeed quick and effortless.
On the other hand, the 26-inch wheels with 2-inch semi-slick tires not only provide excellent rolling ability but also have strong passability. They can effectively reduce vibrations from the ground and are equally friendly for urban roads or off-road terrains.
Compared to it, the biggest advantage of the B’Twin Riverside Original 920 E is its better-known brand name and the longer quality guarantee period provided by Decathlon, as well as a lower price.
The B’Twin Riverside Original 920 E has an advantage in comfort with its full suspension design. However, it doesn’t have the same appeal in speed as the Sixthreezero EVRYjourney Women’s Electric Bicycle.
If you want to complete your commute as quickly as possible and don’t mind spending more money, buying the Sixthreezero EVRYjourney is also a good choice. But if you are looking for more reliable quality and better value for your money, the Original 920 E is a trustworthy option.
Decathlon B’Twin Riverside Original 920 E VS. ADDMOTOR E-53 Adult Electric Hybrid Bike
If you have ever looked for an affordable electric hybrid bike with a longer recharge mileage, the ADDMOTOR E-53 Adult Electric Hybrid Bike may have caught your eye.
With a 48V 20Ah Samsung Removable Battery, ADDMOTOR claims that it can extend the E-53’s range up to 125 miles (PAS1). However, this also depends on factors such as riding PAS, road conditions, load, and wind direction. If you ride in high-speed assist mode (20mph), the actual mileage will be significantly reduced.
In addition, the 64-pound weight of the ADDMOTOR E-53 can make it cumbersome for users to carry upstairs.
Compared to the ADDMOTOR E-53, the battery life of the Original 920 E is also quite impressive. With a maximum recharge mileage of 90km, it can meet most travel needs.
Most importantly, the geometry of the Original 920 E feels more comfortable, with ergonomic handlebars and gel saddles providing a more relaxed riding experience.
Taking into account the purchase cost, the Original 920 E is more suitable for urban commuters because it is lighter, more comfortable, has good recharge mileage, is more affordable, and is suitable for everyone.
Summary
Overall, the Decathlon B’Twin Riverside Original 920 E provides a reliable and practical option for riders seeking a dependable commuting tool.
With a lightweight aluminum frame, full suspension design, a rear hub brushless motor that assists, and a 7-speed gear system, this bike combines comfort, performance, and durability.
The Decathlon B’Twin Riverside Original 920 E is the most reliable electric bike for commuting and travel.
