Electric bicycles are becoming a common sight on the streets and it’s no exaggeration to say that they have conquered people’s commuting routes.
But can they conquer off-road trails as well? To find out, I got my hands on the Orbea RISE H30 20mph. This is an exceptional full-suspension electric mountain bike, and I was eager to see how it performs.
In the following sections, we’ll analyze the riding experience, key features, components, specifications, and compare it with other models in the latter part of this article. If you’re interested in more bike reviews, stay tuned and follow us.
Riding Experience
To put this full-suspension mountain bike to the test, I booked a flight and a hotel on IHG and made my way to Barrington Bike Park.
I chose the Dead Man’s Creek trail at Barrington Bike Park. This trail spans 4,659 feet in length, mostly downhill, with a vertical drop of 956 feet.
The road is narrow, allowing only one vehicle at a time, and the towering trees on both sides cast shadows over parts of the trail. The road surface consists of gravel and dry branches, making it a challenging and twisty route that adds some obstacles to my ride.
Off-Road Riding
I controlled the Shimano Deore M6100 SGS Shadow Plus, adjusting the gear ratios to different slopes, speeds, and road conditions.
On moderate and relatively short uphills, I used the momentum from the downhill sections to build speed and then accelerated with the Shimano EP600-RS, powering through. It was an exhilarating experience, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
During descents, I held onto the OC Mountain Control MC31 handlebar tightly to prevent my hands from slipping due to vibrations on the gravel.
With 140mm rear travel and 140mm front travel, this bike provides excellent suspension, keeping my body agile instead of rigid when riding on undulating surfaces. I could adapt to various situations with ease and confidence.
When launching off jumps during descents, I didn’t panic even with significant drops. Instead, I eagerly anticipated the descent. That’s the confidence that the suspension instilled in me.
In corners, the impressive Maxxis Rekon tires provided exceptional grip. With the option of a 120TPI casing and a tire tread made of 3CMaxxTerra compound, they offered strong traction and braking capabilities. I could find the optimal point to exert power in every corner, smoothly maneuvering through each turn.
Additionally, thanks to the EXO+ puncture protection, I had no worries about getting a flat tire due to high-speed friction with the ground.
Is that all?
The Orbea RISE H30 20mph comes equipped with the Orbea Internal 540Wh (Optional 250 Wh Range Extender) battery, providing excellent range, so I never have to worry about running out of power during my rides.
Additionally, its Shimano EP600-RS 250W 85Nm mid-drive offers decent power, and the 85Nm torque allows for carrying more weight and conquering steeper inclines.
Furthermore, it features the OC Mountain Control MC31 handlebar, which is well-suited for mountain biking. With an upsweep of 3º and a backsweep of 9º, it conforms to ergonomics, providing a comfortable grip and effortless control. It has significantly boosted my confidence while riding.
