The Boardman ADV 9.0 series is designed to excel on both road and unpaved gravel surfaces, not to mention the rough, uneven trails. Boardman ADV 9.0 strikes a delicate balance between weight, maneuverability, and comfort, encouraging riders to go faster and farther on both off-road and gravel terrains.

Riding Experience

Boardman ADV 9.0 is a gravel bike with a carbon fiber frame and reliable components. I found that it handles various off-road terrains with ease.

For this review, I packed up the Boardman ADV 9.0 and headed to a nearby rural gravel road. The entire route consisted of unpaved, rocky terrain with rolling hills, making it perfect for a gravel bike.

Climbing

As soon as I hopped on the Boardman ADV 9.0, I could feel that the carbon fiber frame was impressively lightweight and rigid. The bike’s overall integration provided a strong forward push when pedaling, resulting in faster climbing with increased speed.

However, as the ascent became steeper, uphill riding became more demanding. Yet, thanks to the Shimano GRX gravel-specific drivetrain, there was a wide range of speed options to choose from. When I selected the appropriate gear, the overall pedaling experience felt much lighter, requiring less effort for robust climbing.

Finally, the Boardman ADV 9.0 is equipped with Panaracer 38mm GravelKing SK tires. The closely-packed center tread rolled quickly on firmer surfaces, while the chunky, widely spaced edge knobs provided ample traction for turning on looser, muddier terrain, allowing for quicker climbing.

Descending

Boardman ADV 9.0 displayed excellent comfort and stability during the descent on the gravel road. The carbon fiber frame and fork effectively absorbed all road vibrations, making the ride exceptionally comfortable and stable.

Furthermore, the 700C large wheel diameter provided added stability during descents, with superior traction that easily handled rough, uneven road surfaces.

When descending at higher speeds, the Shimano GRX 400 hydraulic disc brakes, coupled with 160mm front and rear rotors, offered powerful braking performance. The braking operation was responsive, making it easy to control the bike’s speed. These brakes provided reliable stopping power in any weather conditions, enhancing rider confidence.

Lastly, on narrower trails, the Boardman ADV 9.0 excelled with its impressive tire grip and agile handling, allowing me to enjoy swift and nimble descents on winding paths.

Specifications

The Boardman ADV 9.0 features a brand-new C10 carbon fiber frame that weighs a mere 990 grams, providing a lightweight and efficient platform. Its geometry and functionality are designed to make off-road or rugged road cycling enjoyable and confidence-inspiring.

Furthermore, the bike is available in four frame sizes, suitable for riders with heights ranging from 5’6″ to 6’5″. In other words, it accommodates a wide range of rider heights, making it suitable for almost anyone.

With its 700c large wheels and 38mm tires, the bike offers excellent stability and superb traction. The wider tires also reduce the risk of punctures.

The Shimano gravel-specific drivetrain and brake components ensure fast, precise, and efficient shifting, as well as reliable durability. The hydraulic disc brakes provide all-weather braking performance.
