Riding Experience

Lapierre Overvolt AM 7.7
Lapierre Overvolt AM 7.7

As an overweight and physically unfit male, I never imagined I would be able to experience the thrill of mountain biking. However, my life changed when I purchased an electric-assist aluminum endurance mountain bike.

This bike allows me to explore the city and conquer hilly terrains on weekends, and I want to share my authentic cycling story with you.

Let’s start with the downsides of this bike. The battery capacity is indeed relatively small, which means its range is not particularly high.

However, you can purchase an extra battery for around $550, as I did, and swap it while riding. Additionally, there’s a backpack available for carrying the spare battery.

City Commuting

Commuting in the city can be a hassle. I used to spend hours stuck in traffic, listening to the radio, wishing I were somewhere else. However, ever since I started riding my electric-assist endurance bike, my commute has become enjoyable.

I live in San Francisco, and my office is located in the financial district, which means I have to navigate through several hills and traffic.

Seriously, I was a bit nervous on my first bike commute. I had never ridden an electric-assist bike before, and I wasn’t sure what to expect. However, as soon as I started pedaling, I realized that this bike was a game-changer.

The electric-assist system allowed me to effortlessly conquer steep hills, and I could easily navigate through traffic.

One of my favorite parts of the commute is riding through Golden Gate Park. The park is a beautiful oasis in the middle of the city and a perfect place for biking. The terrain is mostly flat with some rolling hills, and there are plenty of paths and trails to explore.

Weekend Hill Climbing

On weekends, I enjoy riding my electric enduro bike up into the mountains to explore some local gems. One of my favorite places to ride is China Camp State Park, located in the northern part of San Francisco.

The park is known for its beautiful views of the San Francisco Bay and challenging terrain.

The park features a mix of fire roads and singletrack trails, and the terrain can be steep and technical at times.

However, with the electric assist, I can easily tackle the steepest climbs.

One of my favorite trails in the park is the Bay View Trail, which offers stunning views of the bay and the surrounding hills.

Another favorite riding spot of mine is Mount Tamalpais State Park, located just across the Golden Gate Bridge.

The park boasts some of the most challenging terrain in the area, with steep climbs and technical descents. However, the scenery from the mountaintop makes the effort worthwhile.

One of my favorite trails in the park is the Coastal Trail, which offers breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and the surrounding hills.

The trail can be steep and technical at times, but with the electric assist, I can even tackle the toughest sections.

Overall, my electric-assist endurance bike has opened up a whole new world of riding for me. I never thought I would be able to handle the hills and trails of the Bay Area, but with this bike, I can explore new places and push my limits.

If you’re looking for a bike that allows you to explore the city and conquer the hills, I highly recommend this bike.

Lapierre Overvolt AM 7.7 vs Trek Rail 7 Gen 3

Trek Rail 7 Gen 3
Trek Rail 7 Gen 3

When comparing these two bikes, it’s evident that the latter has a more affordable price, but there are some compromises in terms of component configuration. Let’s take a closer look at their differences.

The Lapierre Overvolt AM 7.7, to accommodate shorter riders and provide more agile handling, features a smaller 27.5″ wheelset.

However, this design compromises the bike’s speed capabilities.

In terms of battery size, the former utilizes a larger capacity 750Wh battery, and its Sram 12-speed drivetrain provides powerful support.

On the other hand, the latter has a smaller battery and a shorter suspension travel.

Lapierre Overvolt AM 7.7 vs Fezzari Timp Peak Pro XO Transmission

Fezzari Timp Peak Pro XO Transmission
Fezzari Timp Peak Pro XO Transmission

The Fezzari Timp Peak Pro XO Transmission comes with a higher price tag. With that comes a carbon fiber frame and a superior RockShox ZEB Ultimate front fork.

The 635Wh battery capacity may not be the largest, but with the oversized suspension travel in the front and rear, it can conquer even the steepest terrains.

Both bikes have the same power output, but the former has a larger battery, giving the Lapierre Overvolt AM 7.7 better range. Additionally, the shorter front and rear suspension travel make it more agile and responsive.

If I were a rider who values comfort in suspension and tackles steep terrains, the Fezzari Timp Peak Pro XO Transmission would be the better choice.

On the other hand, if I were a rider who seeks speed and nimble handling, I believe the Lapierre Overvolt AM 7.7 would be my decision.

Summary

Above is our review of the Lapierre Overvolt AM 7.7. It is a great electric full-suspension endurance mountain bike that is well-suited for long-distance shuttle rides, especially on terrain with plenty of slopes.
