Riding Experience
The Orbea RISE M10 20mph has a lightweight frame, excellent components, and the assistance of the motor, providing outstanding climbing and descending abilities. I couldn’t wait to ride this mountain machine and put it to the test.
So, I took the Orbea RISE M10 20mph to Hatfield-McCoy Trails (West Virginia) and booked a nearby hotel through IHG in advance. This trail is also known as “Trails Heaven” and offers beautiful mountain scenery, rugged and undulating paths through forests, sections with loose rocks and tree roots, and some challenging descents. It was the perfect trail to test this bike.
Climbing
Climbing with the Orbea RISE M10 20mph was effortless for me. The excellent suspension design, combined with the powerful output of the Shimano EP801-RS motor, provided me with smooth and efficient uphill riding. I didn’t feel much resistance during the climb and could easily maintain a high level of performance.
Furthermore, the exceptional geometry of the bike distributed my weight evenly between the front and rear, even on steep sections, providing a balanced feeling. The steep seat tube angle ensured my center of gravity was in the right position, improving pedaling efficiency and uphill traction.
Lastly, the Maxxis Dissector 2.4-inch wide tires provided excellent grip. On the rocky uphill sections, the bike stayed firmly planted on the ground, preventing any rear wheel slippage and significantly enhancing riding efficiency.
Descending
The Orbea RISE M10 20mph’s descending performance is also commendable. The Fox 36 Float Factory suspension fork and Fox FLOAT X Factory rear shock offer 150mm and 140mm of travel, respectively.
With strong support and sufficient travel, they absorb the majority of the impact when landing from drops, ensuring a smooth and safe landing.
Moreover, the 29-inch wheels front and rear provide sufficient passability and stability on long-distance rocky descents. As a result, I felt more stable during downhill riding, which improved my confidence, control, and overall speed. It felt like riding a tank, descending rapidly on this trail.
On narrower trails, the Orbea RISE M10 20mph’s lightweight construction made it more agile and easy to handle compared to other electric mountain bikes in the same category.
Lastly, the Shimano M6120 four-piston brakes provide reliable stopping power. Their strong braking capability allowed the bike to come to a halt quickly, and the braking response was smooth. This was particularly helpful for frequent braking and speed control on narrow trails.

The Orbea RISE M10 20mph is available in four sizes (S-XL) with a carbon fiber frame featuring internal cable routing. It is suitable for riders with heights ranging from 4’11” to 6’6″, providing options for a wide range of riders.
