Introduction
A professional race-grade aero bike, the Gen 7 integrates aerodynamics, and ride quality in one. It is one of the fastest-road bikes on the market, a true champion’s choice. With its ultra-lightweight OCLV 800 full-carbon frame, the Trek Madone has almost gone over the top in terms of weight. The SRAM RED eTap AXS wireless electronic 2×12 drivetrain will give you an exceptional riding experience with its massive burst of traction during cycling acceleration. The Madone The KVF full-carbon shock fork provides full shock absorption.
The aerodynamic design allows you to ride with minimal air resistance.
If you need a professional race bike, the Gen 7 will provide you with an experience that will exceed all your expectations. Take the Gen 7 on your journey and you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
Road Riding
At the beginning of the review, I had great expectations for the performance of the Trek Madone, and as a racing aero bike, I thought only a perfect ride would match its professionalism.
I conducted the review over more than two months on suburban roads. Here I was able to take advantage of enough winding terrain for the Trek Madone’s performance to be fully tested on the ride.
Thanks to its OCLV mountain carbon material combined with the new aerodynamic Kammtail frame shape, I was able to reduce enough air drag on slick race tracks. The new IsoFlow technology combined with the 73.5° head tube angle provides excellent sprint preparation.
Although the road ride between the mountain tunnels is flat, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a big physical output. Faced with significantly rising terrain changes, the SRAM Red eTap AXS 2 × 12 -Speed Electronic drivetrain’s gearing provides more than enough shifting needed.
The Trek Madone tires are Bontrager Aeolus RSL 51 700x26c OCLV carbon vacuum tires, which ensure a faster ride with a lighter body and enough composure.
When I was riding, I felt that despite the efficient physical output of 3h already. But I didn’t feel much fatigue. I think this is because its Reach value is not very large, so I don’t need to reduce the frontal windward area by pressing down my body too much to reduce the drag.
I think the Trek team has shown enough sincerity and ingenuity in this updated version of Madone SLR.
Racing Riding
When testing the Trek Madone SLR 9 for a race ride, I chose to ride a fully simulated race on the Great Ocean Road, which is comparable to a real race track.
As one of the fastest road bikes in the world, the Trek Madone SLR 9 was built around racing in the design phase. The new aerodynamic Kammtail frame shape serves for a faster ride. Combined with the OCLV mountain carbon, I felt more toughness and endurance in the outdoors.
Because most of the time I was riding standing up. So for a while, I thought that the Trek Madone SLR 9 didn’t even need a saddle design. Even though his seat tube angle has reached a perfect 73.5 angle. When I tried to sit on the Carbon rails on the Aeolus P2 RSL saddle, I apologized for my cold feet on it during my previous rides.
At the same time, the shorter handlebar length of 90mm reduces wind resistance as much as possible. In addition, the absolutely simple design of the front of the Trek Madone SLR 9 retains only the necessary operating equipment. Also, the invisible alignment design reduces unnecessary air resistance while making the bodywork neater and more aesthetically pleasing. Because of this, I didn’t feel the obstruction of hoses being dragged in the race ride.
Experience
As the near-smooth 700x26c vacuum tires skimmed the track in a near-drift while riding, I felt better than ever! Also, let’s not forget the support I received from the SRAM Red eTap AXS 2×12-Speed wireless electronic drivetrain. The operation is simple enough and the speed range is rich enough to allow me to match the adjustments as needed at any time.
The optimized and upgraded IsoFlow technology improves aerodynamics while also reducing body weight again. This is an extremely important breakthrough, even though I think it’s already light as a feather.
Be aware that the course I was riding was not a one-way street. The steep 73° head tube angle allowed me to be nimble enough in the steering when facing a section with a lot of turns. The shortened rubber bushings on the top handlebar position brought significant help to body control.
After I consumed two full-size water bottles, I ended the race with the swiftness of SRAM CenterLine X hydraulic disc brakes.
Main features
Frame
In terms of body frame material Trek Madone SLR 9 chooses the best-performance OCLV 800 full-carbon. In addition to the absolute lightness, the strength is 30% higher than the previous 700 series. Just because less material is needed in areas where strength is required, it makes the Trek Madone body lighter and able to perform amazing riding speed on the track.
The geometric streamlined body is fully aerodynamic and has less air resistance in the ride. The hole above the center tube allows airflow to accelerate through the frame, thus minimizing the impact of air resistance.
The new IsoFlow technology unique to the 7th generation Trek Madone improves aerodynamics while also reducing weight again for a smoother ride.
The center section of the mid-tube is designed to be thinner than before, which makes it easier to adjust the adaptability of the frame. This provides the rider with vertical compliance and system comfort while maintaining frame stiffness.
In addition, large-capacity water bottle holders can be installed on the top tube as well as the bottom tube. However, adequate hydration is especially important for long rides.
The invisible cable wiring is designed for easy alignment, making the look neater and fresher. In addition, the overall structure looks more simple.
Geometry
As a fully aerodynamic race bike, the Trek Madone SLR 9 has a standard geometry. The stand-up height of 768mm in standard size is easy to ride, even for more petite women.
The shorter 410mm rear lower fork length puts the center of gravity further back. This also effectively increases riding efficiency and helps tremendously with riding speed. The steep 73.3° seat tube angle on the Aeolus P2 RSL, carbon rail saddle allows me to maintain a more aerodynamic riding position during the ride. It also makes it easier for me to swing my leg muscles to run this bike as a way to improve my riding efficiency.
Components and Specifications
SRAM Red eTap AXS 2×12 Wireless Electronic Drivetrain
The Trek Madone SLR 9 features a cleaner front-end design with the SRAM Red eTap AXS wireless electronic drivetrain, which greatly reduces drag from the air. Correspondingly, the aerodynamics are also aerodynamic with a power meter crank and allow for custom adjustments.
On top of that, the Trek Madone SLR 9 opts for a more extensive 2×12 gearing. Compared to the 1× drivetrain, the 2×12-Speed gearing range is more adequate for more challenging trails and more suitable for racing. Not only that, but the latest wireless SRAM Red eTap AXS has an even wider gear range of 36T. As a result, it gives you a faster, more responsive, and smoother shifting experience than ever before.
Bontrager Aeolus RSL 51 TLR 700x26c Vacuum Tires
Trek Madone SLR 9 chooses lightweight OCLV carbon road tires. Compared to the thin 700×25c tires of previous aerodynamic bikes, the Trek Madone SLR 9 does an excellent job of balancing weight and riding speed. The tires have enough composure to ensure a fast ride due to their lighter weight.
In addition, the extremely high weave density of 127tpi is tougher than the 120tpi commonly found on the market. 51mm tire depth effectively reduces air resistance while bringing faster riding speed.
The Trek Madone SLR 9 vacuum tire is designed to be lighter in weight while being extremely resistant to friction. Not only that, but it is also stronger and more durable, eliminating the possibility of inner tube blowouts and making it more maintainable.
SRAM CenterLine X Hydraulic Disc Brake
As an aerodynamic road racing bike, the Trek Madone SLR 9 is equipped with the more premium SRAM CenterLine X The hydraulic disc brakes on the Trek Madone SLR 9 have a size of 160mm. This makes them lightweight, and the rounded edges reduce air resistance while making tire mounting easier.
SRAM CenterLine X Hydraulic discs have a more responsive braking effect than mechanical discs. The Trek Madone SLR 9 responds immediately to a little pressure on the lever when braking is required.
Also, SRAM CenterLine X The hydraulic disc brake is subject to fewer external influences and lasts longer because of its fully enclosed design. This is the most desirable braking device for every cyclist.
Other Versions Of Trek Madone SLR
We have reviewed the performance of the Gen 7 in detail. But to make your choice better, we have compared the previous version of the Trek Madone SLR 9, and the Trek Madone SLR 9.
Trek Madone SLR 9
As a race road bike of the same brand, the Gen 7 retains the traditional strengths of the Trek Madone SLR 9 while upgrading the less-than-complete configuration.
For example, both have the 800 series OCLV carbon ultra-light frame. But in terms of weight, the Trek Madone SLR 9 eTap Gen 7 is a breakthrough from the Trek Madone SLR 9. Compared to the IsoSpeed technology used in the Trek Madone SLR 9, the IsoFlow technology used in the Gen 7 is a more complete upgrade on top of it. As a result. It makes for a smoother ride and lighter body weight. As a result, the Gen 7 has a more comfortable experience than the Trek Madone SLR 9.
So if you have a bigger budget, I suggest you go for the Gen 7. The Gen 7 offers a ride that the Trek Madone SLR 9 can’t match, for a little bit of a price bump.

Trek Madone SLR 9 eTap Gen 6 vs Trek Madone SLR 9 eTap Gen 7
The Trek eTap Gen 6 has a lot in common with the Trek Madone SLR 9, a race road bike in the same series. For example, they share the same hydraulic system, the same 800 series OCLV carbon frame, the Madone KVF full-carbon fork, and the SRAM Red eTap AXS 2×12-Speed wireless electronic drivetrain.
The Trek Madone SLR 9 has the right 700 x 26c tires, while the Gen 6 has 700 x 25c tires, which don’t look too different from the 26c. But if you experience it, you will know the absolute difference in the riding experience they bring.
So, if you don’t have the budget, the Trek Trek eTap Gen 6 will be the best road bike in your budget. But if you have a bigger budget, the Trek Trek Madone SLR 9 will give you an even better riding experience.
Giant Propel Advanced SL 0 vs Trek Madone SLR 9 eTap Gen 7
Both Giant Propel and Trek Madone are the ultimate in design, also as race aero bikes. They both have excellent aerodynamics and are equally comfortable in terms of riding feel.
So, I think either Giant Propel or Trek Madone would be a good choice for you. However, in terms of color, the Trek Madone supports personalization through the Madone Project One ICON paint scheme. The Giant Propel has fewer color options. If you are like me and want to have a car that is unique in color, then the top-of-the-line the Gen 7 is the best choice for you.
BMC Timemachine Road 01 ONE vs Trek Madone SLR 9 eTap Gen 7
As an aerodynamic bike, though, the BMC Timemachine has an aerodynamically designed frame. And like the Trek Madone, the BMC Timemachine also has a highly equipped drivetrain and braking system. But at the beginning of the review, I noticed the oversized tires on the BMC Timemachine compared to the Trek Madone. As expected, it was just as I had suspected. The wider tires of the BMC Timemachine 700×28c are heavier in weight than the Trek Madone 700×26c tires, which are just right. So the BMC Timemachine will undoubtedly feel more air resistance on the ride.
Therefore, in my riding experience, the Trek Madone is superior in terms of the model’s aerodynamic design and reduction of riding resistance.

Cervelo S5 Red eTap AXS vs Trek Madone SLR 9 eTap Gen 7
Although the Cervelo S5 Red has the same top-of-the-line features as the Trek Madone, such as a wireless electronic drivetrain and SRAM hydraulic disc brakes. It also has standard geometry and a smooth aerodynamic model. The Cervelo S5 Red’s wider 28c tires are its only downside.
In addition, the clean front of the Cervelo S5 Red and the stealth alignment design are outstanding in reducing wind resistance.
So if you ignore the Cervelo S5 Red’s wider tires, I think the Cervelo S5 Red is equal to the Trek Madone in terms of performance. But if you consider the impact of the tires on speed, I would still prefer the Trek Madone SLR 9 eTap Gen 7.
