Gravel bikes are a type of bicycle that has emerged in the last few years and is somewhere between a mountain bike and a road bike. Compared to traditional road bikes, the gear ratio will be more compressed.
Also since it is mainly for gravel roads, its frame is very much focused on shock absorption. And in general, gravel road bikes will be heavier in weight than normal road bikes.
And this Canyon Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension 1by gravel road bike is one of the best. It is equipped with a gravel-specific shock fork with 30mm of travel enough to absorb the bumps on the trail and give you a more comfortable ride.
Also, the frame made of carbon makes the body light and strong enough. Coupled with Schwalbe G-One Bite 45 mm professional gravel tires, it gives it the ability to ride long distances.
So, let us introduce you to this Canyon Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension 1by in detail, we will start with gravel riding, long-distance riding, main features, main components, and other versions, and these aspects to introduce. If you want to know more, welcome to follow us, we will keep updating.
Canyon Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension 1by Gravel Riding
For the past few months, it has been this Canyon Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension 1b that has accompanied me. It has always brought me a very pleasant ride during such a long period.
Due to the epidemic, I had to stay in the country and that’s when the Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension 1b became my only companion. I rode it for an hour-long journey every day. I couldn’t help but marvel at the bike’s performance as I drove down the gravel roads of the countryside.
Perhaps for many people, what they don’t like about riding on gravel roads is the violent vibration that comes with riding, which makes it not easy for them to control the stability of their bodies. This bike, however, solves this problem very well.
Because the RockShox Rudy 30 fork cancels out a lot of the vibration, even though it only has 30mm of travel, I was able to control the handlebars easily even then. In addition, the use of the Canyon HB0063 handlebars with the Canyon Ergospeed gel not only gave me a comfortable grip but also provided effective anti-slip action. At the same time, the wide tires give it the ability to drive on gravel, and I can feel the stability it brings when riding.
I can even let go of my other hand during the ride, but of course, if you don’t have my extensive riding experience this is not recommended.
Canyon Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension 1by Long-Distance Riding
I’ve always wanted to take a long trip. Starting from my doorstep, I would take some essentials and follow the gravel roads in the countryside from early morning to dusk, enjoying the stunning scenery of nature.
And this bike Suspension 1b gave me a chance to do just that. I was well prepared this time, thanks to the fact that it has multiple mounting holes in the frame, allowing me to carry a lot of stuff. At first, I thought that too much luggage would interfere with my riding, but after some time on the bike, my worries were allayed.
Long rides didn’t make me feel tired, thanks to its shock fork that cancels out a lot of the vibration, but also thanks to its Fizik Argo Terra saddle. The modern, short-nose design provides greater stability, and I could feel the comfort it brought to my hips when I sat on it. Also with the Iridium SP0058 dropper, it makes my ride even lighter.
I enjoyed the ride while admiring the scenery along the road. Watching the trees around you recede rapidly, feeling the breeze blowing past your face and catching the sun, it would be one of the happiest rides I’ve ever been on.
Honestly, I was attracted by its appearance at first sight. The carbon frame is set up so that it’s only 22.5 lbs and the light weight gives you a much easier ride. In combination with its Matcha Splash paint color, I can say that this is one of the nicest gravel bikes I’ve seen recently.
Also, it has a standard cockpit. You can easily install all the standard accessories you need on it, such as GPS mounts, lights, bells, etc.
Most notably, the Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension 1b has multiple mounting holes in the frame that you can use to mount a water bottle or carry a gravel bag. This is very helpful for your long rides.
For road bikes, great geometry helps a lot with your ride, and the same is true for gravel road bikes.
The Canyon Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension 1b has an extended frame and wheelbase, which allows you to ride with more stability.
Also, its steep seat tube angle (73.5°) makes the saddle more forward, which allows you to ride more stooped. This, combined with the 72.5° head tube angle, gives it the ability to steer quickly and responsively.
This aerodynamic geometry allows you to ride with less effort.
Components and Specifications

For the brakes, the Canyon Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension 1b uses Shimano GRX RX810 hydraulic disc brakes. Therefore, it is more responsive in terms of speed, giving it better braking control in mixed terrain.
Meanwhile, the brake lever that goes with it is ergonomically designed to improve comfort. With a curved textured anti-slip brake lever, it provides excellent grip and optimizes the braking sensation, giving you more peace of mind while riding.
RockShox Rudy 30 Fork
This RockShox Rudy 30 fork is arguably designed for gravel riding. This fork features 30 mm of travel and 50 mm of tire clearance and is compatible with full-length fenders.
Although this fork does not have a locking mechanism, it is equipped with Maxima Plush damping fluid. This allows for excellent sensitivity while riding and gives you extra control while riding.
Schwalbe G-One Bite Tires
As a professional-grade gravel tire, the Schwalbe G-One Bite features a tubeless design that gives it more traction. Also, the open tread design gives it excellent stability in turns and the sturdy outer tire gives you great control in turns.
What’s more, a very durable rubber compound is used in the material, which makes it able to cope with more complex terrain. Therefore it is not only very resistant to wear and tear, but also has a long service life.
Other versions of Canyon Grizl
In this test, to give you more choices, we also tested other versions of the Canyon Grizl series, so you can choose according to your needs.
As a gravel bike in the same series, the geometry of this Canyon Grizl 7 Suspension is identical compared to the Canyon Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension, which is what everyone is flirting with. This is because the geometry design of this series is not very different.
However, the Canyon Grizl 7 Suspension uses an aluminum frame, which makes it a bit heavier. However, it is worth mentioning that it has a 2×11 drivetrain, which also gives it more options in terms of gearing.
If you have more demanding weight requirements, then the Canyon Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension would be a good choice.

2023 Canyon Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension 1by VS 2023 Trek Checkpoint SL 5
Although both are also made of carbon, the Canyon Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension 1by is only 1.1 pounds heavier than the Trek Checkpoint SL 5 in terms of weight. But this slight difference is negligible in actual riding.
It has to be said that the Trek Checkpoint SL 5 is the fastest-riding bike of the bunch. But accordingly, it is not as comfortable as the Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension 1by in terms of riding comfort.
If you prefer a more comfortable ride, then the Canyon Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension 1by would be a good choice.
2023 Canyon Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension 1by VS 2023 BMC URS ONE
The geometry of this BMC URS ONE differs from that of the Canyon Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension 1by.
First of all, the BMC URS ONE has a shorter seat tube length, which makes the bike look shorter overall than the latter. This also affects its stand-up height.
I do like a slightly taller bike, which makes it more comfortable for me to ride. And in terms of color, I prefer the freshness that the Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension 1by gives me.
2023 Canyon Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension 1by VS 2022 Cannondale Topstone Carbon 2 L
This Cannondale Topstone Carbon 2 L uses 2×11 shifting on the drivetrain, which gives it more options to deal with different terrain. But as a gravel bike, the Canyon Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension 1by’s 1×11 drivetrain is adequate. Because it doesn’t encounter some overly complicated terrain, after all, no one would use a road bike as a trail bike.
In terms of price, Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension 1by is cheaper than it is. So if you are not too demanding for the drivetrain and are looking for value for money, then this Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension 1by might be the right choice for you.
2023 Canyon Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension 1by VS 2022 Specialized Diverge Comp Carbon
For a gravel bike, the Canyon Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension 1by is excellent in terms of damping. The RockShox Rudy 30 fork absorbs vibrations effectively and has 10mm more travel than the Specialized Diverge Comp Carbon.
It also comes with a dropper design that the Specialized Diverge Comp Carbon does not have. This makes it much easier and more comfortable when you ride on gravel roads. The Canyon Grizl CF SL 8 Suspension 1by is definitely at the top of the list for me in terms of how these bikes feel to me on actual rides.
