For a long time, hardtail mountain bikes have dominated the off-road trails. But what would it be like to ride a full-suspension mountain bike on these trails? To find out, I got my hands on the Yeti SB140 T3 X0 Transmission and was excited to see how it performed.
Below, we’ll analyze the riding experience, main features, components, and specifications of the Yeti SB140 T3 X0 Transmission. In the latter part of this article, we’ll also compare it to several other top bike models. So if you want to know more about bike reviews, stay tuned.
Riding Experience
To better test this full-suspension mountain bike, I bought a plane ticket and booked a hotel at the Big Bear Lake Trail Center.
I selected the Pine Spur trail at the Big Bear Lake Trail Center. The trail was quite rough, with a constant downhill slope, but with some steep uphill sections. The path was narrow, only enough for one bike to pass, and there were protruding rocks and scattered wood branches that could significantly impact my ride.
Off-Road Riding
On a cool morning, with a light fog lingering in the mountains, I started my ride. I descended the initial straight slope, picking up speed. But each time I encountered protruding rocks, I used the SRAM G2 RSC Hydraulic Disc to reduce speed and roll over them. While a traditional hardtail mountain bike might feel bumpy in such situations, this full-suspension mountain bike, with its 140mm rear travel and 150mm front travel, provided powerful suspension, allowing me to roll over obstacles smoothly without discomfort.
After the straight downhill, there was an uphill section. I adjusted the SRAM X0 EAGLE AXS TRANSMISSION rear derailleur to the lowest gear ratio, leveraging the speed from the downhill to stand and pedal uphill. With the dropper seatpost lowered to avoid any collision between my legs and the seat, I easily ascended the slope. This was the confidence that the Yeti SB140 T3 X0 Transmission gave me.
Throughout the uphill and downhill sections, it was not all about riding straight. There were many bends, and the angles were quite sharp. I skillfully controlled the YETI CARBON handlebar, using my body weight to maneuver. The SRAM G2 RSC Hydraulic Disc also helped me adjust my speed. With my vast riding experience, I perfectly completed each bend with excellent form and ideal speed. The sense of achievement was truly fantastic.
Is that all?
The ODI ELITE PRO grips played a significant role during my descents and turns. I could comfortably grip the YETI CARBON handlebar, and the texture provided substantial traction without causing discomfort to my hands. I had complete control of the handlebar, and the feeling was perfect.
Additionally, the bike is equipped with MAXXIS MINION DHF tires. They are made with Super Tacky compound, a special low-rebound, high-traction material that feels well-suited for mountain biking. The tires also have EXO puncture protection, effectively ensuring my safety on the trails.

The Yeti SB140 T3 X0 Transmission weighs 14.1kg, which is slightly heavier than the Trek Top Fuel 9.9 XTR’s 11.5kg. While the heavier bike provides more stability during rides, it also introduces more resistance. On the other hand, the lighter bike offers great agility, making it more suitable for handling turns.
The Trek Top Fuel 9.9 XTR features lighter carbon wheels, but they are more prone to breakage when facing side impacts. In contrast, the Yeti SB140 T3 X0’s aluminum wheels are sturdier.
