Rating: (4.9/5)
This year, Yeti introduced the Yeti SB115 T3. I appreciate the components of this bike, and as I’ve been engaging in off-road cycling lately, I purchased the Yeti SB115 T3 to elevate my off-road experience. I wasted no time in putting it to the test.
In the following sections, we’ll analyze the riding experience, key features, components, specifications, and other versions of the Yeti SB115 T3. Additionally, we’ll compare it to a few top bike models later in the article. If you’re interested in more bike reviews, feel free to follow us.
Riding Experience
To thoroughly test the Yeti SB115 T3, I booked a flight, reserved a hotel on IHG, and made my way to Camp Fortune.
At Camp Fortune, I chose Bill’s Run. This trail spans 1082 feet in length, with a 162-foot elevation drop, predominantly downhill. There’s minimal uphill and a significant downhill slope on narrow and bumpy terrain. The dirt path is littered with protruding rocks, fallen leaves, and dry branches, posing challenges to my ride.
Off-Road Cycling
Starting from the beginning, I accelerated downhill. However, the trail was incredibly rugged, demanding constant control of the YETI CARBON as I focused on the path ahead. Whenever encountering protruding rocks, I used the SRAM G2 ULTIMATE Hydraulic Disc to reduce speed before smoothly passing over them. With 130mm front travel and 115mm rear travel, the suspension was highly effective, minimizing the sensation of bumps.
On the limited uphill sections, I managed the SRAM XX1 EAGLE Upgradable rear derailleur, adjusting to the lowest gear ratio to maximize power output with minimal effort. Lowering the seat height using the dropper, I avoided hitting the seat while standing and accelerating uphill.
Navigating the continuous bends, I maneuvered the YETI CARBON handlebar. Seated on the ERGON SADDLE, I shifted my weight for each turn, utilizing my center of gravity. With each bend, I exercised caution, employing the SRAM G2 ULTIMATE Hydraulic Disc to regulate my speed. Leaning on my experience, I smoothly handled every twist in the trail.
Is that all?
The YETI CARBON handlebar boasts Yeti’s top-tier carbon fiber construction, providing exceptional sturdiness, making it well-suited for all-mountain riding. Its ERGON SADDLE is fashioned from soft, comfortable fabric, offering substantial support without uncomfortable pressure on my hips.
Furthermore, I appreciated the impressive MAXXIS MINION DHF 2.5 EXO tires, equipped with EXO technology for superb puncture resistance. After riding over rocky terrain, I couldn’t spot any visible tire wear. Additionally, these tires provided exceptional maneuverability on uneven paths, allowing me to make agile directional changes.

Other Versions
After numerous tests, we have gained a deeper understanding of this bike. It’s an outstanding full-suspension mountain bike.
However, many riders have specific performance requirements or component preferences, leading us to explore similar bikes further.
Yeti SB115 C1
The Yeti SB115 C1 weighs 30.3 lbs, slightly heavier than the 28.2 lbs of the Yeti SB115 T3, but both share identical geometry. While the Yeti SB115 T3 features a TURQ Series carbon fiber frame, the Yeti SB115 C1 is equipped with a C/Series carbon fiber frame. Furthermore, TURQ Series employs premium carbon fiber, while the C/Series carbon fiber is slightly heavier while maintaining the strength and stiffness of the TURQ Series.
Regarding the groupset, the Yeti SB115 C1 is equipped with Shimano SLX components, which are lower-tier compared to the SRAM XX1 Eagle and X01 Eagle on the Yeti SB115 T3. The SRAM XX1 Eagle and X01 Eagle are top-tier mountain bike components. This is why the Yeti SB115 C1 is $4200 cheaper than the Yeti SB115 T3.
Therefore, if you desire superior components, I would recommend the Yeti SB115 T3. If budget constraints are a concern, the Yeti SB115 C1 would be a better option for you.

The Yeti SB115 T3 weighs 28.2 lbs, slightly heavier than the Trek Top Fuel 9.9 XTR, which weighs 25.3 lbs. Heavier bikes offer greater stability during rides but also come with increased resistance. On the other hand, lighter bikes are more agile, allowing riders to maneuver better. The Trek Top Fuel 9.9 XTR features carbon wheels, while the Yeti SB115 T3 has aluminum wheels, contributing to the additional weight of the Yeti SB115 T3. Carbon wheels are more prone to breaking upon side impacts.
Additionally, the Trek Top Fuel 9.9 XTR boasts 120mm of rear travel, providing superior suspension performance compared to the 115mm rear travel of the Yeti SB115. The Trek Top Fuel 9.9 XTR has a head tube angle of 65.5°, which is smaller than the 67.5° head tube angle of the Yeti SB115 T3. A smaller head tube angle enhances ride stability.

Yeti SB115 T3 vs Giant Trance X Advanced Pro 29 SE
The Giant Trance X Advanced Pro 29 SE is equipped with a 1×12 Electronic drivetrain, while the Yeti SB115 T3 features a 1×12 drivetrain. An electronic drivetrain offers highly precise and consistent shifting, reducing the likelihood of issues arising from cable stretch, deformation, and resulting mis-shifts. It also requires less frequent adjustment, with only periodic battery charging needed. However, electronic drivetrain systems come with a higher level of complexity when it comes to maintenance. In extreme situations, they are more prone to encountering problems, while mechanical drivetrain systems are comparatively easier to maintain.
Furthermore, the Giant Trance X Advanced Pro 29 SE provides 150mm of front travel and 135mm of rear travel, offering a stronger suspension effect than the Yeti SB115 T3’s 130mm of front travel and 115mm of rear travel. Additionally, the Giant Trance X Advanced Pro 29 SE features lighter carbon wheels, albeit being more prone to breaking. The aluminum wheels of the Yeti SB115 T3 are heavier but less susceptible to issues.
Therefore, if you’re seeking a more precise electronic drivetrain, the Giant Trance X Advanced Pro 29 SE can meet your needs. If you’re looking for a mechanical drivetrain system that’s easier to maintain, the Yeti SB115 T3 is a better fit for you.
