Nowadays, the concept of low-carbon and green travel has been gaining increasing attention. Everyone wants to choose the right bicycle for their travels, so our team has found the Liv Thrive 2.
After a week-long riding experience, the Liv Thrive 2 has won us over with its comfortable geometry design, lightweight ALUXX aluminum frame, and user-friendly flat handlebars.
We can’t get enough of it. So, I believe it could be the surprising commuting companion you’re looking for.

Riding Experience
Due to the long distance, I have always relied on buses as my commuting method. However, to have a more authentic experience with this bicycle, I decided to “venture” and use the Liv Thrive 2 as my commuting companion for a while.
It turns out that my choice was right. It has made my daily commute different, and I am very satisfied with its performance during rides.
Commuter Riding
On my first commute ride with this bike, I faced crowded crowds and unpredictable road conditions, which made me worried about how the Liv Thrive 2 would handle.
However, thanks to its steep 71-degree head tube angle, this bike has excellent maneuverability. It allows me to navigate through crowds more freely. I love this outstanding control it offers; it feels great to ride.
While riding, I didn’t notice a pedestrian suddenly appearing at an intersection. However, with my quick reaction time, I pressed the brakes.
The Liv Thrive 2, equipped with Tektro HD-R280 hydraulic disc brakes, didn’t disappoint. I quickly and safely came to a smooth stop.
This greatly enhances my sense of safety. Based on this aspect alone, I believe many people would be interested in it.
Moreover, when facing uphill sections, I operated the Shimano Sora derailleur and shifted it to the smallest gear ratio. This way, I could exert the least amount of effort for maximum power.
Leisure Cycling
On a delightful weekend, I always feel like going for a leisure ride with friends. So, we prepared to depart from the city and head to the outskirts.
The road conditions from the city to the outskirts always vary, but the Liv Thrive 2 can adapt well to these changing surfaces.
Thanks to the Giant S-R3 AC tires, made with high-quality materials and a tread design, they can handle dry and loose surfaces with ease. I have no worries about slipping.
If bumpy roads are a challenge for riders, the Liv Thrive 2’s Liv Sport saddle won’t cause you any trouble. It’s incredibly comfortable, allowing me to fully enjoy the ride. Even on gravel surfaces, the Giant D-Fuse helps reduce vibrations.
Moreover, when speeding along winding paths, I have no concerns about unexpected situations. The Giant Connect handlebar helps me maintain better control of the entire bicycle.
Additionally, I can rely on the Tektro HD-R280 hydraulic disc brakes for deceleration.
Overall, the Liv team designed this bike with both comfort and safety in mind. In summary, I’ve had a very comfortable riding experience.
Specification
The Liv Thrive 2 is an excellent hybrid bike. The ALUXX-Grade aluminum frame offers decent strength while remaining lightweight. The composite fork provides good front suspension, significantly enhancing ride comfort.
The Giant S-R3 AC tires have a size of 700×32C. This tire material is suitable for all-weather fast riding on any road condition. The high-volume casing provides excellent comfort and improves bike performance.
Furthermore, this bike has two water bottle mounts, so even when riding to more distant places, you don’t have to worry about staying hydrated. Thirst is no longer an issue.

After conducting numerous tests, we have gained a deeper understanding of this bike. It is an outstanding hardtail mountain bike.
However, many riders have their performance requirements or preferences for components. Therefore, we found similar bikes to conduct further investigation.
Liv Thrive 1
These two bikes are very similar, with minimal differences. The main distinction lies in the Shimano 105 and Shimano Sora components.
The most significant difference between these two groups is the gear transmission. The 105 is 11-speed, while the Sora is 9-speed.
The 11-speed gears have smaller size differences, providing smoother and more efficient climbing. Therefore, the Liv Thrive 1 is more suitable for climbing than the Liv Thrive 2.
Furthermore, the Sora shifters are less refined and bulkier compared to the 105. They can be more cumbersome to operate.
Moreover, the 105 dual-pivot brakes offer more responsive and reliable braking, aligning with aerodynamic principles. Although the Sora also delivers excellent braking performance, it doesn’t match the agility and stopping power of the 105.
The Liv Thrive 1 is priced at $400 higher. So, if budget is a consideration, the Liv Thrive 2 is more suitable. If you desire an exceptional riding experience, the Liv Thrive 1 will better meet your expectations.

Liv Thrive 2 vs Trek FX 2 Disc Stagger
First of all, in my riding experience, I feel that the carbon fork of the Liv Thrive 2 is sturdy and stable.
Secondly, the Shimano Sora component of the former would be more suitable for novice riders, and is ideal for road riding, while the Shimano Altus of the latter is more suitable for mountain riding.
The Sora rear derailleur has several steel parts with a pearl white coating for greater wear resistance, while the front derailleur has a zinc-plated inner chain for greater corrosion resistance.
Secondly, the Giant S-R3 AC used on the Liv Thrive 2 is an all-road road bike tire, suitable for all surfaces. But the Trek FX 2 Disc Stagger uses the Bontrager H2 Comp, which is a street, trail tire. It can only be ridden in the city, which may be inconvenient for users.
Finally, the Trek FX 2 Disc Stagger has a chainstay length that is a bit longer than the Liv Thrive 2. This increases the stability of the whole bike. And the longer stack gives the rider a better reach.
In short, if you want to be able to ride in a variety of road conditions, the Liv Thrive 2 will be better for you. But if you want a stable and comfortable ride, the Trek FX 2 Disc Stagger will be better.

Liv Thrive 2 vs Specialized Crossroads 2.0
The overall structure of these two bikes is quite similar. However, Liv Thrive 2 features a 2×9 drivetrain, which offers a wider range of gears compared to the 2×7 drivetrain on the Specialized Crossroads 2.0.
Additionally, the repairability of the mechanical disc brakes on the Specialized Crossroads 2.0 is superior to the Tektro hydraulic brakes on Liv Thrive 2. However, the latter provides better safety and accuracy.
Moving on, the Specialized Crossroads 2.0 has a highly comfortable spring suspension seatpost, while Liv Thrive 2 is equipped with the excellent Giant D-Fuse seatpost.
The D-Fuse seatpost effectively absorbs shocks and vibrations, providing a smooth ride on varied terrains. However, in terms of suspension effectiveness, the spring suspension seatpost has the advantage.
Therefore, if you’re seeking a highly comfortable riding experience, I would recommend choosing the Specialized Crossroads 2.0. If safety and smooth riding are your priorities, Liv Thrive 2 would be a better fit for you.
Liv Thrive 2 vs Cannondale Bad Boy 2
The Bad Boy 2 is an excellent hybrid bike for city riding. 650b tires allow the rider to ride nimbly on city streets. Of course, it’s not as stable as the 700C wheel that comes with the Liv Thrive 2.
Secondly, the Shimano Sora used in the Liv Thrive 2 is more refined and just a little bulky on the shifter. The Cannondale Bad Boy 2 is equipped with microSHIFT Mezzo which is more durable and can reduce the maintenance of the rider.
Additionally, during nighttime rides, the Bad Boy 2 has front and rear LED lights powered by USB rechargeable batteries. This illuminates the road in low-light conditions, ensuring a safer riding experience.
If you frequently ride your bike home at night and encounter poorly lit areas, the Cannondale Bad Boy 2 will provide a safer journey. If you prioritize sophisticated components, the Liv Thrive 2 will better meet your satisfaction.
